What do SKY+ HD boxes actually put out

This may well be a silly / obvious question

Do SKY+HD boxes put out HD signals at all times irrespective of it being tuned to a non-HD Signal

Put another way do you only need HD ready TV's in order to watch the HD channels

Thnaks

You know the answer, don't you.

Since the box has a number of outputs, HDMI, RF, SCART 1 RGB, SCART 2 Composite, and the now defunct/imaginary/never existed - (and recently recalled)- component video output boxes, all of which put out the resultant signal that is received,

the receiver will put out some form of picture to the TV via all of them, but if you are watching via the HDMI output only, the box will do its stuff to put out a reasonable (well, given the cost cutting / quality of components fitted, and the original MPEG-4 broadcast specifications that have been sacrificed for the 'quantity over quality' standard) downscaled version of the original camera shot/hard drive recording.

It's HDMI, but not as we know it.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
