My System: Sky+ multiroom
Problems with input 2

OK, here's the set-up.

I have a Sky+ box in the living room. Sky box in a bedroom. Both working great until...

The Sky+ box was connected 2 inputs, one output to other rooms direct to the coax coming out of the wall. Wanted to tidy things up so bought double coax socket and a single. Wired the single to the output, ok. Wired the double to the two inputs, then suddenly input 2 not working anymore. I thought the socket may be faulty so tried different permutations.

1. Input 1 cable to input 2 - "No Sattelite Signal...."
2. Input 2 cable to input 1 - "Ditto"
3 Input 2 cable direct again without the socket - no joy.

Question is, do you need to have input 1 connected before input 2 works? Also could it be that the input 2 has just given up the ghost?

Is there a quick and cheap way of checking the cable to the loft?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome,

You'll get a signal lock on the signal test screen for INPUT 2 without INPUT 1 connected.... but without a signal on INPUT 1 the box will do nothing and the EPG will not load.

Thanks for this.

I am still not having any joy. I have just got the bloke to send me a replacement for the dual coax socket in case that is faulty.

Another thing, friends. As a newcomer to this technology, can you tell me what all the acronyms mean? What is the meaning of LNB, EPG and all the others you fling around. Just dim, I guess, but any explanations would be beneficial to my education :-)

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

LNB = Low Noise Blockdownconverter = lumpy thing on end of dish arm which detects the signals collated by the Dish and downconverts their frequency range to one which the electronics of the receiver can handle.

EPG = Electronic Programme Guide (self-evident: Allocates Channel numbers and provided Programme Information)

Thanks again. Very interesting.

Now the two inputs are working but the output is not. I am going to have to see if I have caused a break in the coax while pushing the surplus back into the wall or even broke the single wall plate. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
