How to tell if a stacker is installed on Communal dish

Hi All,

Very briefly. I live in a communal block of flats and the landlord is rubbish and we cant get access to the dish to check the old fashioned way. We are thinking about getting sky + again ( we have a box from our old place ) .

We have a single cable run coming into our flat off the communal dish. The landlord does not know / wont tell us how the cabling is setup. Is there any way to tell if the dish/setup has a stacker installed ? I have been told ( by sky ) that other people in the block have SKY + / Sky HD which is what made me think it might ( there are no other dishes on the block ).

I cant get access to the dish and the neighbours ( or the one i asked were less than friendly ).

Any help would be great.

Cheers Alex

Be very weary of what Sky tell you. I have had service calls out to many people who order Sky+only to find they only have one feed

Sky will still install a Sky+ box to a property with 1 feed as it will still work just not to its full capability

Its highly likely that its just a five wire system with only the capability to provide one sat feed to each property

I doubt very much if there are any stackers on the system. The only way you are going to find out is by knocking everyones door and asking them

Hi Nano,

Thanks for the information you have been more than helpful. To be honest the build quality of the flat is pretty poor to say the least i doubt they would of considered peoples want for sky+ !

It was worth a shot anyway.

Its such a pain that SKY+ does not recognise when its only got one input and work accordingly it seems from my research that one has to switch cables etc to record which seems daft. I imagine there are lots of people in the same position.

Cheers Alex
