My System: Sky Plus
No signal being recieved

Hi
Despite having good strength and quality.
I have a 4 head LNB to 5 input 5 output booster.
To change from sky to sky+ I used 'Twinax' (two core one shield) from booster to box. This doesn't work, interference?
If I use one of the twin cables and a second co-axial I can get good signal strength and quality on both inputs but no picture.
I have tried this with and without the booster.
I have also taken the sky box next door, and it works fine!
I have tried so many combinations of the above, I can't remember them all!!
There must be somthing I have missed?
The satelite sytem was installed proffesionally but I am installing the Sky+ (in France)
Many thanks

Welcome,

Hopefully it's a multi-switch and not a launch amp. Assuming you have available ports on the switch (booster) have you tried them all and is the cable terminated correctly.

Thanks guys,
I'm not sure what a launch amp is?

I have tried them all, inputs and outputs.

The ends are fitted correctly, although the Twinax cable ends has to pass through dominoes!(Chocolate blocks) As the inner insulation is too thin for standard 'f' terminals. (I am not happy about this.)

I have tried a direct cable from the garage to the lounge to no avail.

Total cable run from LNB to sky+ box is about 25 metres

I am off to get the serial numbers.

Back soon.

Can you upload some pictures, as I am really confused as to what you are using, not heard of Twinax and don't know what you mean by Dominoes (chocolate blocks). Also a picture of your 5 in 5 out amp would be helpful.

Don't like the sound of the chocolate block connectors for jointing co-ax cable. There are different sizes of F connector which may suit your cable. Also, the twin-ax that I have come across in the past has been computer cable and may not be suitable for satellite frequencies.

Have you had the system working with the dish where it is now and with the present LNB? 25m is within 'normal' range so what happens if you use the old Co-ax without any boosters? Have you changed the LNB? If you have it may be heavier and cause the dish to point lower than previously. Can you revert to the old working system and then change one thing at a time? From your description it sounds as if you have changed LNB, cabling and introduced a booster

problem

hello,i saw this i do not know what twinax is bit you need to run two coax cables from ther lnb..
if you have a 4 output lnb then you can run sky plus using 2 independent lines to the receiver and the other could run another sky plus with the other 2 lines.
the f connetors come with different diamater holes and any sotre should sell this.
the sky plus means it has t tunners meaning that it is 2 receivers in one.
one runns the hard drive were you czn record and the other you can watch tv as well.
you know the receiver works it must be the cableing.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the advice.

Firstly the details of the LNB and the switch.

The brand for both is FR ACARRO

The LNB says:

CHVU4ZN
LNB 4 OUT H/V H/V
Cod 289821

The SWITCH says:

Switch Line
Compact Switch
5 IN - 6 OUT
SW15506A

When we had it set up with the original co-ax and the swich we got
one signal, when we add a second co-ax with or with out the switch we get good signal stength from the switch and less without but no picture.

Well it looks like the LNB and switch are OK. When you use the original coax from the switch do you get a picture? Talking about signal strength can be confusing. Are you measuring this with a meter or relying on your S_y+ box? If you get a picture with the single cable, that suggests the problem is with the twin-ax. Is this satellite grade cable? When you say you are using choc block to join do you mean that you are using something like this? At both ends? If so you will get very unpredictable results if it works at all

That's a quattro LNb and cannot be used without a switch. It provides four fixed outputs, each with a single band/polar and it's not possible to switch the band/polar with the receiver.

Have you enough ports on the switch to connect to?

Try running a separate feed to receiver and see rather than use your twin-ax.

If you are getting good signal but no picture, it may be that the inputs from the Quatro LNB are not in the right ports on the multiswitch (a common error), but I'm still dubious about the Twinax cable and whatever these connectors are.

You'd probably have been better off with an Octo LNB.
