My System: Technotrend 3200, Triax 80cm dish, Pace 2600C1, Thomson DSI 8210, Raven 60cm dish. Skyline DSR 6000, Stab motor. |
Got a new Thomson DSI 8210 Sky+ box and connected it to my 80cm dish, which has about 25 metres of cable and a stabs usals motor. Many channels reported this message "no satellite signal being received" error number 28. So I removed the cable from the motor and connected it directly to the LNB and hey presto, all channels are back on. My cable is the type with hollow insulation and the cable from the motor to LNB is a piece of NTL cable with solid foam insulation. Is the motor causing a drop in signal? I've also got a Pace 2600C1 Sky receiver and it works okay with the cable going through the motor, although I've heard this box works with weak signals.

Cable with an airgap is not for satellite use, that is why the performance is poor, it cannot handle the high frequencies

My System: Technomate TM6800D & TM1000D+ receivers, Stab H-H90 motorised Triax 1m dish 42E to 30W. Fixed Orbital 1m on 26E, 2 x minidishes.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox. | Any of the type '100' approved satellite cables should do the trick, eg wf100 (foam dielectric) or WC100( air- spaced). Check that the air-cored cable is double screened and the correct type for satellite. The cables with silver coloured foil and braid such as the virgin stuff are not supposed to be as good. Yes, the motor will cause some attenuation. 3 or 4 dB I believe. Also kinked or badly bent cable will cause a problem, the air-spaced dielectic cable is more prone to this.

I got the cable from a sky engineer who left 50m behind, but that was for sky analogue. The cable has braid and foil. Last edited by thedavid; 19-07-2008 at 04:47 PM.

To be able to rule it out, I would be tempted to get some wf100 or similar.
