My System: sky+ box 60cm dish
Question Sky+ and free to air recording

I am new to this satellite game, so please don’t get technical. I have a satellite dish and my sons old sky+ box I can get all the free to air channels that I want.
My question is can I record any of them with this box I know I will need two inputs but that is no problem as I have a quad LNB. I thought that I had seen on the net somewhere that sky was going to make this possible with the launch of freesat.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/13E/16E /19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

No.

To have the recording facility active on a Sky+ box you need to either

1) subscribe to sky (any mix)

2) if you dont want to subscribe then you have to pay Sky a tenner a month to have the recording facility activated.

There were numerous rumours circulating six months ago that the launch of Freesat would see Sky drop the record only charge, but its not happened yet.

My System: Technomate 1500ci + super , freesat uk , hyunday hss1120na

Apparently there is a way to enable a pace 3100 + box to record without a subscription . Via jtag .

Not much at the moment , you need a jtag serial cable , jkeys and the appropriate firmware patcher . I will look more in to this but i don't have a 3100 to try . Early days yet .

My System: PACE 430 (Radio Reception only to feed a SKY Gnome), PACE 3100 (PVR 2.5), ROI SKY 6 mixes, Technomate TM-1500 CI+, TM-6900 HD, 100 cm Triax (Sky), 80 cm Nokia with Motec SG-2100. MacBook and that's that.

Google "Pace 3100 firmware patcher" and there are loads about it on other forums...

It only works for the PVR2 Pace boxes, but it does work. If yours is anything other than this type then I believe there is no fix, that I know of
