Not recording, not pausing

I just got a new Sky+ box, I think it's a V3. I have hooked it all up and I am seeing most of the channels I had before, I haven't called Sky yet to get the new box and the card married, before I do this I wanted to to know if I should be able to record and pause without the cards being married. When I try to pause it only lasts for a few seconds the I get a message flash up saying "RECORDING INTERUPED" then it goes back to the normal program, I can rewind but after a while it flashes the same message and goes back to what is being transmitted. I can use the planner and it goes through the motions of recording but when I try to play back I just get the same message. I am hoping these problems will go away once the card and the box are married but I am reluctant to make the call in case it dosn't work and I have to change back to my old box.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

I'm not convinced that the record function will work with an unpaired card Robbie, but must admit to having never tried it.

After more playing I have noticed that I can pause and record on FTA channels so that problem would almost certainly go away once the box and card a married.,,, I hope.

Just got the new box and the card married and all is working fine. I can't play back the stuff I recorded before the card was married though.
