Help to get free channels in Dusseldorf

Hello I am new to all of this,

I am working in Mulheim in Germany (15 Km's north of Dusseldorf). I have purchased a Panasonic satellite reciever from Ebay , it works power etc....
I need to line my dish up to the Astra 2 satellite beam for BBC1,BBC2,ITV etc (free channels), I think....?

My problems are:-

1)Does anyone know the compass bearing or direction that I need to set my satellite dish too and also the angle that I need my dish on?

2)Will a 80CM dish be capable of fixing onto the signal?

3)Will a general LNB be okay to use?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Finbar

Hi Finbar, Welcome to satellites,

There are a few online calculators that give you the correct angles to use.

Here is one:-

_www.dishpointer.com.

Heres the footprint for Astra 2D

http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra2d.html

You should easily get it with an 80cm you are inside the footprint.

Yes, any Universal LNB will work, no special LNB is needed.

P.S. Merged your two posts into the same thread.

On the dishpointer website, for the Astra 2a-b-d satellites,it states that the Elevation is 27.8 degrees and the Azimuth (true) is 153.5.....?

What is Azimuth, is that a compass bearing.

Told you that I was new to all of this?

Help!!!!

My System: Sky Plus V3 TDS 470n, Pace 2600CI, Thomson Sky HD, Technomate 1000D, Prodelin 1.8m dish + Invacom Quad C120, CM feed, Lacuna/Wolsey V3 meter

Azimuth is the horizontal bearing from north. Take away 153 from 180 and you get the bearing from due south, that is 27 degrees east of south.

er..they could of course just have said point the dish south-east, it's a lot easier.

My System: I bet on red. If I lose, I double the bet on red again. I continue with this until I lost everything.

Muhuhuhahahahahaaaaarrrgggh

If you can see a "normal" german dish, they point to 19 east. So you will have to move your dish 9 degrees to the "left" when standing BEHIND the dish, and one degree lower. If you can get the TV near the dish so you can watch the signal strentgh while you move the dish it should be a piece of cake. Just move it by small steps at a time. 80 cm in Düsseldorf should be ok, but you are on the limit. A larger dish would be better, but try it out first.

And if you zoom in really close on the google map on dishpointer, and put the red marker where the dish is going, the blue line shows you which way the dish should point.
