Wouldn't it be easier to put a note in users profiles to say private messaging was disabled until they had posted 5 times?

I have been a member here for ages and last time I visited I could PM

Now I can't and it's taken me ages to find a thread that explains why.

User friendly?

The reason we don't do that, is that the system was being abused by some new members, who, if being told that it required 5 posts would just make 5 silly posts to try and reach the threshold. Also it isn't just 5 posts, it requires a period of membership before PMs are enabled.

What members without PM capability can do, is activate the vCard in their profile.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I now have 5 posts but still can't PM anyone, can you let me know when this will be enabled for me? I have been a member for nearly 2 years.

Thanks

The forum tables can take a while to update, but it looks like they have at the time of me posting.
