Question Pre-Moderation?

I've just joined this excellent site a few days ago, and I notice that sometimes my posts are queued for Moderation before appearing, sometimes not.

I can't see anything in the Rules about this, so what's the policy? (I'm not complaining, just curious.)

My System: No set up as yet

Does that mean a pre-moderation queue that nobody never looks at?

When a post is in the moderation queue, it can be viewed only by moderators.

Judging by a post I just had queued, your keyword filter is picking up keywords in text quoted from another (already approved) post. Just a thought.

I still think your software might be filtering already-approved text, which is clearly a waste of time. If so, it would be a SMOP* to not do that. Just saying.

* Simple matter of programming.

Text is manually approved.

Individual words trigger the software auto-moderation.

It depends on the context of the words used, sometimes words are used in a an an undesirable context, sometime not.

The software is not intelligent enough to tell the difference. It is not SMOP, it would have to be a very clever program, that can read and understand whole sentences, which it ain't. It just uses trigger words to moderate the whole post.

Fair enough. Thanks for being so open.

I was thinking more of (partial) links, as it happens. If the software squeals when it sees, say, "http", in a quoted piece, then it would be wasted effort and time to block it. Maybe I'm seeing problems where there aren't any.

I never saw a piece of software that couldn't be taught new tricks.

It is my understanding that the software has to be kept relatively simple for forum use, otherwise unecessary burden can be placed on the server, slowing it down for everyone. We have a good and active moderation and admin team who are 'on the ball' so artificial intelligence is not really necessary.

Lol but still intelligence of some sort is needed!!??!!
Joking aside, we try to respond to them as fast as possible, but sometimes it is a bit delayed.

Yep, it depends if there is someone online at the time of the post. I usually check moderated posts as soon as I log on.

I see that T_G's location is "Somewhere where the Sauer is Kraut and the Wurst is Brat".

I'm guessing Nürnberg. At least that's where I've had the best Sauerkraut mit Bratwurst, and excellent it most certainly was.

[But shouldn't that be "Somewhere where the Kraut is Sauer and the Wurst is Brat"? . . . I'll get me Mantel.]

Well, believe it or not you can get a good BW + SK all over Germany, not just in Bavaria.

Believe it or not, I have been asked that before

When i made my first post ages ago looking for quick help , i posted and then waitted and waitted and waitted eventually went to sleep

It was the next day i got a reply which was helpful i will add , but was annoying to have the post be moderated so slow

Also why arent we allowed links on our posts like lots of forums do ?

ie; i run a Expat Forum British-Expat-Forums.com and a business forum it would be good to have the link on my signature

but when i try it wont take it

Apologies for the delay in moderating your post, but unfortunately there are times when there are not many staff online, usually they are moderated pretty quickly and of course not all posts are put in the queue, only those with typical spam words or content.

With the volume of members passing through the forum, if we didn't have the moderation tool, we would be inundated with spam posts and we can't afford for them to show on the forum, as anything posted on the forum will be on google in less than 15 minutes.

We don't allow links to other forums or businesses in signatures, as people would join just to publicise their own business. We also found that members were abusing our liberal attitude on allowing outgoing links, so had to curtail them.
