Ah, but if you'd gone into edit on the first post, then this is what you'd have seen.

The Alexa stats are actually just an approximation of taffic and reach based purely on the number of people who visit the site and have the Alexa toolbar installed.

On smaller sites, this leaves the figures open to huge errors and indeed manipulation. On larger sites like this they do give a reasonable idea because the graph is smoothed by the increased number of samples. If one person with the toolbar installed spent all day bashing sats.co.uk pages, it would probably go off the scale.

That's why the bandwidth is so large - huge daily fluctuations.

I have no idea how many people have the toolbar installed. Not many I guess.
I do though, just to bump the stats of the sites I visit most

Still, a good free tool, but don't take too literally at a detailed level.

BGonaStick thats correct information as of 1999 or something. Alexa stats are not entirely based on users having the alexa toolbar installed anymore. Especially recently Alexa have been able to gather stats on sites without alexa toolbar users. FOr example one of my website has about 200 alexa toolbar uniques a day, and about 2000 non alexa uniques. However alexa manages to grab about 75% of all traffic now.

the alexa toolbar stats i quoted before were from _http://esther.el.cx which i no longer participate much in, i just collect the adsense cash

Yeah, you may be right, but they ARE crap and can pretty much be made to read whatever you want. Alexa stats are notoriously unreliable. That's my first hand experience.
