freeview channels

hello I live in Rugeley, Staffordshire and I have the normal channels on my tv, but when I bought my set top box and try to find channels it comes up with no channels found. the cable from the antenna has an old amplifier hooked up and if I disconnect it my tv does'nt pick up any channels. Do I need a new antenna ? I would like to know also if an interior antenna would help, because I live in a flat.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Does the block of flats have a communal system, or do you all have your own aerials?

What you think is an amplifier, may well be a power supply, waht does it say on the back?

OK, the amplifier is on the antenna mast, so by disconnecting the power supply, you are disabling the amplifier and it will actually wipe out your signal.

I presume that you are receiving from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter, so if you are not receiving any digital transmissions, you may need to speak to you neighbours and see what they are receiving.

If you live high enough up you might be able to get signals off Sutton Coldfield. I know lots of Rugeley is fairly high up - I lived down the road in Cannock for many years and know the area very well

In my younger days I spent many happy hours on the Trent Valley station watching the electric locos going past

If you are served by the Rugeley relay then you have to wait until September 1st 2011 - and is another transmitter only due to get "Freeview Lite" - half the service.

Do they not have a communal dish, or can you put up your own minidish? This may be the only way to go.

Depending on the size of your Astra dish, you could probably get away with fitting an offset arm for Astra 28.2.
