BBC Regional Programming All on BBC One

It was officially announced today that the BBC News afternoon slot is to move to BBC One from next Monday, leaving BBC Two as an entirely national channel in England, with regional opt-outs still being available for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This move is the final phase following the previous transfers of current affairs programming from BBC Two.

The reason behind this is to allow digital viewers on all platforms to receive all regional programmes, and comes ahead of the July launch of the BBC One English regions on Sky Digital. It will also be of great benefit to 'Freeview'ers who currently only receive a national version of BBC Two from most transmitters.
