My System: Humax HD receiver in Liverpool and Manhattan Plaza SD receiver with similar in Italy and a generic SD in the MH, all with 80cm fixed dishes at the moment. Coming back to hobby now I am retired. Used to have a 1.2 Echostar dish/analogue receiver in 89

I am in Italy where I have a house and I cannot find dealer in the South of Italy that has even heard of TivuSat. On my way back home, will try to stop up north somewhere maybe they are available.

That doesn't surprise me at all - the take up rate was always predicted to be lethargic.

Looking at the mediasat site, the advertised products by humax particularly the packaged kit, looks much like a Freesat set up but with a combined DTT receiver which I like. However I cannot understand why they are not selling them because there is no link to buy it. I suspect that they have some legal problems still looming even though the service is supposed to have started on 31/07.

The other question relates to the 9/13 deg monoblock offered as part of the kit. At the moment all Italian TV is basically on Hotbird. Does this indicated the TivuSat will eventually move to 9 deg as a permanent home?

I had a look at the mediaset site and quite like that Humax Kit. I like the combined DTT /DSAT receivers. However there is no link to buy so I wonder whether they are in fact available.

Also, I notice that they are offering a monoblock for 9/13 deg. Is there some intention to move all the Italian channels on to 9deg? I wonder.

Well that is an interesting question.

It is observed fact that 9E is attracting a great deal of custom, but as yet I've not seen any specific suggestion (apart from yours!) that Tivù might shift there.

That doesn't mean it won't though.

I wonder if Signor Berlusconi knows ..................

I think it must be something like that because I first found out about the 9 deg spot through a packed cheap generic FTA receiver in the local supermarket. The writing on the box said something to the effect that is ready for the new 9deg tranmissions without reference to TivuSat . This was 12 months ago so Tivu Sat was certainly not set up then.

And Berlusconi would be well aware of this. After all, the move to TivuSat is more or less a way to shut Sky out of DTT and FTA Satellite while providing a 'safe' slot for RAI and Mediaset as a combine offer.

A bit of an update on TivuSat

Here in the south of Italy in Scalea (CS) I have just come across the first Humax 9000 Tivusat box with card. For a whole month I looked at every electronic goods shop and they hardly knew about the system never mind the box.

The cost is 159 Euros and no you cannot get the card alone to fit in the box. Apparently even the built in CAM is matched to the card.

I will not be investing in one just yet mostly because the box does not have an HDMI or component inputs and it is not HD enabled. I will therefore wait a bit longer before I go for it.

Well thankyou for the feedback - none of which surprises me!

Another Thread in this part of the Forum has a discussion about UK Retailers and Opportunities for Import and the lights are completely off as regards that.

My System: 1.25m offset dish for Astra2 28deg., 1.2m dual feed for Astra1 and Hotbird, Thomson Sky HD, Humax HDCI2000, Dragon CAM, Invacom 0.3 twin lnb, Dell Dimension 4400 and Inspiron 1525, 1 meg broadband

Well, here in Lazio there are no such troubles. Tivusat decoders are easily found in all the main stores, eg. Euronics, Unieuro, etc.
Cards are still bundled with decoders but the Tivusat CAM is expected in the stores in early 2010. For those who can't wait to use an alternative decoder, the Samsung DTT CAM works with the Tivusat card in any CI decoder.
The take-up on these decoders is about to take off. RAI channels remain scrambled on the Sky platform for many programmes and now Canale 5, the main mediaset channel, is scramling more often and is starting to show an on-screen message in place of the programme giving viewers details of Tivusat and how to get it. You can see the message here - _http://www.digital-sat.it/new.php?id=19976
Also remember that Lazio region will switch off all analogue signals in the second half of november, some regions have already switched and others will follow soon. The DTT signals will not be receivable for many people for geographical reasons and they will have no choice but to use satellite.
Also, there are no plans whatsoever to move from 13 degrees east.

That's really useful stuff, thanks: SWMBO's family live in Lazio, so we may be lucky getting hold of a box.

Good to get some positive news for a change!

Cool

Thanks,Dennis.I also would like to buy a Tivusat card.As many others,I do not want or need a decoder, therefore once I buy a card(including the decoder which I will leave in Italy),any Samsung DTT Cam will read the card?(there seems to be a few versions) or I can use a Diablo Cam with the correct firmware. As I understand is this the only mechanism to watch Tivusat until they launh their own Nagra Cam?I suspect they will not sell a Cam+ card together in early 2010?One must buy the card + decoder? Also,as you need to prove residence in Italy to buy a Tivusat decoder, can you then order more cards for other rooms in the house where you can use your old decoder to watch Tivusat?(I guess this is the reason they are bringing out a Cam?Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

My System: Dreambox 7020S

I confirm that Dtt Samsung cam is working on any sat decoder with CI (Azbox isn't working with the last firm but coder of opensat are working for). You must upload your Cam to the up to date firm by yourself (see here: _http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HB2Q0IOO) with a notebook having Pcmcia Ricoh chip.
I suggest you do not use Diablo , is more expensive and you must use Cas 2 or 3 (more money to add) for programming.
Best regards.
Ciao se sei italiano.

A quick update on TV Sat decoders. They are now appearing in southern Italy - Calabria and I have just found this link which means the price is coming down.

_http://www.digital-sat.it/new.php?id=18894

At £120 incl. VAT, not bad now with HDMI as well.

This includes the card and cam of course.

The legal way to activate is to quote the Codice Fiscale which means you must be registered with the tax system here either through buying a house or working here. So this way you the 50% of the population that do not pay their TV licence will get caught once they get a digital Terrestial or Satellite Decoder. Same with the new Integrated TV's.

A brief synopsis: The number of Tivu'sat cards being activated continues to show constant growth, between 1000 and 1500 cards are now being activated daily.
Positive news also from the producers of decoders, after the Humax Combo and ADB Ican the telesystem TS9000 has arrived and 3 new models are expected for december, from Fuba, Zodiac and Irradio.

!!

In the UK, you can't buy TV related products from High Street Retailers without giving them a name and address, even if you come armed only with a bunch of pound notes (Those were the days).

Fortunately there is no requirement to give them your own name and address

Data used to feedback to TV Licensing.

Mr.Mole of riverbank Cottage must have had lots of nasty letters by now.
