TPS Transponders on Hot Bird 13E

Any idea what will happen to the transpoders used today by TPS on Hot Bird 13E when they move to Astra early next year ?

Would be great if some decent BBC channels would start using Hot Bird.
There are so many French and Italian channels and only BBC World and BBC Prime.

TPS Leaving Hot Bird 13E Date?

I have been trying to find out the exact date that TPS will leave Hot Bird 13E, but without much success.
I can only speculate that it might be after 21st March 2008, since the last date for selling the 12 months smartcard subscription was on 21st March 2007.
So it is unlikely that they will keep paying for the TPs on HB after this date if there are no valid subscribtions left by then.
There was a mention that it would take up to 24 months to change all the TPS receivers which would take us up to 21st March 2009. But it is unlikely.
It would be helpful if anybody, especially the French speaking members, can enquire and see if they can come up with a more definite date.
A reference (even in French) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Im sure I saw somehere that the tp's are actually rented by Globecast and sublet to TPS. If so Globecast wont have any problems renting them out again - theres lots of demand for tp's in the skies above Europe at the moment.

What you got to ask yourself is, why are they wanting to move to astra? is it because they want to be covered by NDS, now owned by Rupert.

I have a TPS subscription which I renewed last month and TPS assured me the signal would be available on Hotbird until at least Dec 2009.

This is very interesting since the TPS smartcards hasn't been offered for a very long time and they urged subscribers to buy the Canal Sat sc on Astra 19.2E instead.

Can you please give us details about where you made the renewal?
Is it a TPS card or a Canal Sat card?
If you can receive Astra 19.2E, will it also open the Canal Sat channels there also (unless your card is Viaccess encrypted only, then this might not be possible)
Hope that they are not misleading you. Did they assure you by writting or just a verbal ?
Anyway, we will be wiser in just few months.

I renewed a TPS (not CanalSat) subscription (it was automatic, they just billed my credit card from last year). It's a TPS Viacess card. The reason we called them was that we have a card only subscription and wanted to now how we would be migrated to Astra/CanalSat. We were told that TPS are migrating people who rent a TPS receiver first, then those who bought a receiver from TPS and finally those of us with cards only. They couldn't tell how this would work, but they did say those people who had purchased receivers from them would have to send them in to be upgraded. When we pressed on timescales we were told it will be late 2008 for us card only subscribers, but they couldn't tell us what it might involve, other than it would all be in the letter they will post out to us. All of this was over the phone from a call centre agent in TPS.

Just looking at post #3, where I predicted that TPS will not be available on Hot Bird 13E after 21st March 2008.
Today is 23rd March 2008 and TPS is still on Hot Bird. So it is one of those moments when I can say that I am glad that I was wrong.
One member posted later on that he has bought a subscription and was assured that it will be valid at least till December 2009.
Let's hope it will stay this way.

it's also getting interestingIt’s also getting interesting for me too. Why the hotbird is getting empty or vacant of interesting channels. First the German ones, then the Swiss ones and now the TPS and French ones. The Whole hotbird is to throw away. If it’s for the hackers, they’re everywhere. They’re not living only in China or Russia.

Thanks Commander S for this info.
Will they be moving the MV channels also to Astra 19.2E?
Do the "A La Carte" channels have similar programming as MV?

This will leave only Sky Italia package on Hot Bird 13E with many interesting channels.
Now I have to double my efforts to buy a subscription at reasonable price.

I reckon the MV's will just be scrapped - theres plenty of film channels already available on 19E to replace them

Probably Multivision channels will be ceased. They won't be moving to Astra.

"A La Carte" channels are also PPV like MV channels.

You can say it again Commander S, The Prob's that the French channels have a weaker type of encodings or it's 'coz of costing lots of money. Nobody's been able to hack the British based channels!! but the others are always accessible from the rest of the world. Maybe the type of encoding is not improved or advanced in France “although I’m not a hacker”

They could raise the abonnement rate or these things.

Seeing as the TPS codes change every 5 minutes a code wont do you any good at all - by the time you have entered it the the code will have changed!

You need a patch for your receiver which has a built in key bundle .

MV Channels Only this weekend

MV channels are supposed to stop transmission officially till 31/5/2008
Checked the Euro TV guide, and they have MV schedules only till 1/6/2008, while full schedules for other channels.

So we can expect them to start being pulled off air after the films finish in the early hours of Sunday morning.

No tears yet? Maybe they make a lot of money during the weekend as PPV (it is Sunday today).
I will give them few more days.

MV Channels RIP

Just checked and all the Multivision channels have gone.
A big thanks to TPS for those channels that had an excellent video quality and relatively good cotent.
Come to think of it, they gave the impression that there were several adult channels during the early hours, while in fact it was just one channel MV1 that had a new film and it just got rescreened (rerun) on MV2, MV3, etc. on following nights.

Just a reminder, the rest of TPS will disapper in few months time. Exact date unknown yet.

If it is any consolation, Cine Cinema Frisson and TPS Star have some adult titles during the weekend.
Check the EuroTV schedules around midnight.

As a matter of fact, for those who watched the French channels, no matter MVs' TPSs' or other kinds, now is difficult to pay regularly for watching them. Especially for the hackers. My idea is that they’ll find a way to watch it in free.

The second thing to say is that: people living in other countries or continents what would they do?

Just checked. We have all the channels in the ME.
