reciever info for viacces2 needed

hi
been looking for at sat receivers on Ebay in order to to subcribe to channels encypted in viacess2 format
My question is some models when i look at there specs from the net have embedded viacess1 decoder
i know that the channels i want to watch are now encypted in viacess2 ,this mean that recievers with embeded viaacess1 slots will not decode Viacess2

thanks for anyone person time in replying
:O)

All receivers that have an embedded viaccess cam should work with both via1 & via2 official cards.

ah was hoping that was state of affairs ,i realise im reading specs an user mannuals on web prior to viacess2 being indroduced an like i say the specs of these boxes just state viacess 1 decoder embedded

just it give me impression that they only decode viacess1 channels

thanks for ur reply an time taken for the informative info

hi again
im still abit confused over viacess issue,is it that some older receivers with embedded viacess1 just require a firmware update to decode viacess2 ?

see im looking about on Ebay for a receiver an just want to make sure i buy right
my purpose is to use an offical ART card an view the sports on 13 east (art sport 2,3,4 )
My friend an naigbour use a zone 2 mini dish for reception here in northumberland, ,this i have already

I was all set to buy a nokia 9800s but found very little on net concerning weather this box is up to the job for viacess2 ,,,just 1 guy telling another he uses nokia 9800s for hotbird an art 2 sport but make sure it has firmware MA2

Im not after a top notch receiver all silver an shinney ,supa menus ,built in alarms, ,play mp3,,annoyingly sweep hello over LED when u turn it on ,self dust
I want a basic budget 2nd hand receiver bare bones that do the job ,put a match on my screen sat afternoon

thanks for any advice given

:O)

Unfortunately that is not quite the case with dedicated subscriber receivers (usually the older style ones ).

I have also heard that some of the Echostar range (again earlier versions) do not have the chipset for V2 viewing.

I see so not going to be as easy as i thought this receiver hunting
i look on Ebay an reference the model numbers so i can view the box's specs on net, 90% of sites will just say a certain box is viacess embedded
new even older boxs from 2001 there offical sites just state viacess embedded

So i guess makes shopping hard :O(

so my options are
1 ....get a MODERN reciever with embedded viacess an offical art card
OR
2.... modern receiver with CI slot an buy offical viacess cam an offical art card

option 1..... seems very full pitfalls with this does it or does it not do viacess2 an its veriants

option 2 seems alittle more expensive as far as needing to buy a viacess cam, which ive noticed they come in there own veriants version 1.4 4.9 which i dont even want to start to tackle yet

il just stick for some advice from emebers about where to go from here
thanks for any time given :O)

You are no better off with a separate cam. They should work - but there are always exceptions.

My old echostar with embedded viaccess works fine with a via2 card.

Sorry I can't help. My three receivers are all over five years old and I've never been stumped yet.

But I will admit to you I have bought loads of cards and cams over the years and most are in the bin.

So I guess ur saying all 3 of ur old recievers handle viacess2

After researching would i be right in thinking that many older reseivers at 1 stage had to upgrade there firmware when viacess merged to viacess2
I did read some web page that had a list of effected recievers that couldnt handle the merge
I remeber seeing nokia 9800 range ,,an yeah alot echostars listed so scratched em off me list

i should turn this thread into the ..Whos viewing Art sports 2.3.4 on 13 east hotbird using the embedded viacess card slots an not CI slot ,,,Please name ur receiver below new or old:O) then il take reference of models read up on em hopefully buy 1 soon

somone must know a certain fail safe reciever not to0 pricey
handle viacess2 embedded with least 1 CI slot
Its hard to judge whats new an whats older in terms of been on market as i look at some pages on web an prices
then notcie the page is 3 yrs old in date
id like to add im not shy at flashing firmware not frightend to get me hands dirty ,Im not wanting loads channels just the below

1 satellite hotbird 13 east

receieve 4 channels art ,2,3,4 an that funny arab man who appears
between pepsi adds reading news

hurdle 1 engyption obstacle buying offical card (sorting)

i know me dish size an its fitted waiting

lies depressed in hope of advice ,makes models ,,ages?

My old echostar has been updated many times - not to get via2 but for other reasons and now has the latest available version from Jan2004. Echostar lost interest in my satellite receiver after then.

The echostar website says that one of the firmware updates fixed via2 and when I tried a via2 card it worked ok. A quick check on the echostar site should establish which receivers have a via2 patch.

To get back to the technical aspect of this. The via2 processing is done in the card not the receiver. That's why I said that in theory any old viaccess embedded receiver should work with a via2 card. The problems that had to be fixed were accessing the via2 IDs especially when multiple IDs were trasmitted.

Just adding to this in a non technical way.
The original NTV subscriber bouquet on Hotbird came with a receiver with embedded Viaccess slot, and a card. I think the same receiver was supplied with the first Arabeqsque cards. Customers that already had a receiver with PCMCIA slot were advised not to buy black, but red Viaccess CAMs as the impending changeover to V2 meant that there would be an issue with the older style CAM.

In my experience people that have the orignal receivers now have more trouble with the encryption than those with either type of CAM, suggesting that along the production line, somebody was using either non compatible chipsets, or did not follow the rules wrt firmware.

(PS, receivers with multi embedded slots - @Sky for example, may have issues even though the claims are that they are fully V2 compatible) These are emulation receivers and are not authorised for use on Viaccess by the provider, France Telecom. In the same way I would avoid buying a receiver that utilises an upgreadeable embedded 'Magic' slot, unless you are not solely interested in the official package content.

Art works fine in Humax F1 VACI

If you're looking for a simple system - then I have an old Humax F1 VACI that I have been happily watching ART on for the past two years.
It works fine with an original card in the embedded Viacess slot and it has spare slots for other CAMS should you need them.
I am a luddite when it comes to satellite TV and my box's firmware is nearly five years old.
On the off chance, I looked on Ebay and there is one up there now for £25 - it's not mine!!!!
If you just want the footy, there's no need to pay any more.
Hope this helps

i was talking to the guy at creative satellite via email
guess this is what you mean Channel hopper when you mention some twin card recivers emulators have trouble decoding

he said
Since changes with ART we have noticed that the TM 7755 range might not work in all the areas , no idea yet why , but that is to do with ART lowering the frequencies on their transponder, therefore I will not be able to guarantee that you will be able to pick the signal on ART, on all the rest of channels is OK only on ART is hit and miss.
If you are not willing to try out then I would advice on the TM 1500CI+ Super , the card slot will accept your ART card no problem at all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So my question is ? in therory i can buy a Technomate 1500ci+ with latest offical firmwere its multi card reader will work an art card on 13 E ????

My System: 80cm motorised dish, Technomate 1500Ci+

I use the built in softcam (or whatever its called) in a Technomate 1500ci+ and it works fine with both art cards i've used in it.

Currently I'm using one of the new blue cards. Just put it in and it works, no scratching or anything needed.

hello im back

well i had bought a 2nd hand humax vaci5300 off Ebay that came with a red viaccess cam in the deal but the audio on all channels is muffled
So I too have bought a technomate 1500ci+ funny enough
MY card came this morning an i placed it in the Technomate MultiKrypt card reader an works fine too ,so at last i have me football on saturday

Just for the record my card also worked fine in the humax vaci5300 without the viaccess red cam using the embedded viaccess card reader even with the firmwere dated 11 /2000
But like i say the humax is in the cuboard as i think the audio has a fault all channels are muffled
but the technomate is spot on an im happy dispite been giving negitive feedback for buyin a fcked box on Ebay

thats for another forum i guess
thanks guys for the input i hope this thread helps others who will no doublt walk my path looking for same answers

cheers
