My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!). | Probably overcurrent protection, due to aging of the switch mode power supply capacitors. (If there were an actual fault, it would probably blow a fuse!). | ||

My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!). | With old tv set, not only is there the switch on surge you get in any gadget (eg Kaon receiver above), there's also an additional surge through the degaussing coils. These may be disconnected, in which case the set MIGHT remain on. If considering doing this, then safety first etc, the tv must be completely disconnected from mains, and be aware there might still be dc charges in various places. (added) OOPS, SORRY, I've made a silly mistake ............. The degauss coils are connected straight across mains, IN PARALLEL with electronics power supply, so rest of tv should not be affected by them ....... although they can blow the main internal fuse, if faulty. Please forgive, it was late and my brain was shutting down .... (er, you can certainly still try this, but I don't think it'll make any difference!).
