This is the Yes Israel Package details pages. Yes is the best package in the Middle East, but it is also the most expensive especially due to the fact that their entry level of the equivalent of $47 in local currency is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS. Many of the channels in the Basic Package are actually FTA channels which can be received using a personal satellite system pointing to Amos 4W, Hot Bird 13E and Nilesat 7W. The rest of the channels in the Basic are just standard basic which are not exciting enough to let you want to part with $47 every month !!! If you look at the channels list below, you can see all the channel details in the Basic Package and the options. On the far left side there is a column which shows those channels which are in fact FTA and on which satellite. Comparing the Yes Basic to the Sky Italia Mondo of about 70 encrypted channels costing 24 Euro/month for example will just show how expensive this is. Once you get the Basic Package, there are many options at reasonable price which can be added to the subscription. The receiver is a cheap one which has support for NDS (Videoguard) encryption and would not let the subscriber scan other channels on Amos 4W. Yes is unique in that they are the only package which doesn't have any FTA channel, not even one tiny radio channel !!! In addition, they strip the original teletext transmission from channels that have it, in order to conserve bandwidth. Probably they think that since they are giving EPG, then the subscriber is not entitled to see the information that a teletext can give. Funny thing is that subscribers don't even realize this. http://www.satellite-newbie.co.uk/sat1/yes1.htm The channels details http://www.satellite-newbie.co.uk/sat1/yes2.htm

My System: Satellite Dish 1.6m Hotbird 13E, DreamBox 7000S with Gemini 4.5.0; Dish 1.2m Amos 4W, Nokia 9600S; Nokia 9800S; Hauppauge Nexus-S PCI Card ![]() He battled for 3 days against the Tux and won! Hurray!! | The Yes package is transmitted from Amos 1 and Amos 2 on the Middle East beam so I doubt if you can receive a signal at all. All the channels are secured with NDS and you can see the logos from the Lyngsat link that is given above. If you click on any of the channels, it will open the website. Here are the footprints links for Middle East beam and Europe beam Can you receive any of the channels in the Europe beam ? There are several FTA channels.

Hurray!! | I think it is because when the Nova Greek package (came first) decided on their unreasonable prices, that they set a bad example in the Middle East. I checked just now and Nova has now an entry level of 29.5 Euro (~$40) with similar basic channels, without BBC Prime. Their full fackage is 57 Euro (~$78).

According to Lyngsat: http://www.lyngsat.com/amos.html There has been some changes in the frequencies of FTA channels on Amos IBA Channel 1 IBA Channel 33 11,127 V, 8518, 3/4 Israel 10 Channel 2 11,177 V, 8520, 2/3 Knesset Channel 11,625 V, 3000, 3/4 There are also several FTA radio channels. It is rediculous that the same channels are encrypted and sent on different frequencies and included in the Basic Package so that subscribers would pay more since they have no idea what is going on on the same dish that Yes uses.

One-time Installation cost 139 NIS (~$36) with a cancellation fine of 1000 NIS (~$256) if before the 36 months contract period. The Israeli Parliament (Knesset) approved recently a free package of five Israel channels. Before the end of this year, Israelis will be able to tune into five digital TV channels free of charge after buying a decoder which will cost only 400 NIS. (~ $110) The channels are: - Channel 1 - Channel 2 - Channel 10 - Channel 33 - Knesset Channel The platform is yet to be determined. It is only logical that it might be offered by Yes (satellite) or Hot (cable). These same channels are being transmitted for some time as FTA from Amos 4W and it is necessary to install a personal dish and to buy an FTA receiver. The new offer of a modem costing only 400 NIS is certainly a lot cheaper than a private installation, but it has the drawback of being limited to only those five channels. I would just like to add that this would be a blessing to a lot of pensioners and low income households who are forced to pay the outrageous monthly prices that Yes or Hot charge now for their entry level package, which include these same channels. The decision should have been made many years ago, but it is better late than never. Last edited by HB13DISH; 12-02-2008 at 03:43 PM

My System: Topfield , 1.2 & 1.8 meter dishes, AMOS+NILESAT+HotBird+Astra1 | The new FTA 5-channel package described by HD13DISH is a new TERRESTRIAL package that is expected to start by the end of 2008. It will use MPEG-4 compression . The government is expected to subsidize . The analogue switch-off is expected about 6 months after the complete system will be running nation-wide. Also a digital radio sytem is expected next year using the advanced DAB+ standard. There will be about 40 radio channels available free of charge. More details are available here _http://www.godigital.co.il ( there a few pages in English ). More details about satellite tv in Israel are available from _http://www.satil.com Last edited by shavit; 08-05-2008 at 07:17 AM

Hurray!! | Thanks shavit for this update. ![]() This should give plenty of work for installers of terrestrial systems. Hope that Yes would have the sense to offer a mini package with special STB for those five FTA channels. Last edited by HB13DISH; 07-05-2008 at 01:42 PM

My System: Topfield , 1.2 & 1.8 meter dishes, AMOS+NILESAT+HotBird+Astra1 | Well, stupidly enough - YES and HOT ( the only cable operator in Israel) are planning to offer a basic package just to retain clients and actually HOT has just announced another price increase. I think they are about to have a big blow in their face when the digital package finally launches. They were very fierce opponents to the whole DTT idea during discussions in the Knesset committee.

I saw the thread about the 5 free to air channels from Israel. Would I be able to see these here in London using a satellite receiver box and a standard SKY dish?

Hurray!! | Nobody has reported yet which size is needed in the UK, but my guess is that you would be lucky to receive it with 3-4 m. If you ask me, these channels are not worth the trouble, except for the daily news and "London and Kirschenbaum" on ch 10. They used to have few films and series, but now only rubbish.
