Just wondering what are possibilities for C-Band reception on 1.2m Gibertini if I bought the kit CDTronix has forsale with the scaling ring?

I see you can get 60mm collars in Germany and Italy for not much.

5w looks interesting to me at-least.

Cheers

Last year I mounted my 1M Gibertini on an acro secured in a workmate, fitted a C band LNB and picked up 40°E quite easily. I swapped the C band over to the 1.2M but only tried it lashed up with tiewraps. Results were the same but had I been able to mount it properly I'm sure I could have done better.I saw the same offer and was thinking about it too. If you go ahead I'd be interested to see what results you get. Does the kit not include an adaptor to fit a 40mm Ku band mount?

certainly some transponders at 5West are possible ..
as are quite a few at 20 East ..
Also 40 East ...and the odd one here and there from 40 west ...27 west etc ..
Don't expect to get them all ..but you wont be dissapointed ..
once you get the bug ..you'll want to tweak until you have maxed out the possibilites.
Also I can recommend the F15 as the highest gain receiver I've encountered so far ..and will get you a few of the weaker channels that other receivers simply miss..
Good luck ..and post any results you manage..as this info is invaluable to others seeking to experiment.

The scalar ring on the advert shows one for a prime focus dish. You really need one for an offset dish, especially with the small dish size. If you can wait a few days I'll put my offset feed and C-band LNB on the 1.2 Gib and see what it gets.

Do you mean one like this? I assume if I were to buy a C/Ku band one, the offset feed I already have would fit?

Just to be clear it's this kit I would be purchasing:

_http://cdtronix.com/lnb-s/c-band/bsc421-c-band-lnbf-bsc-conical-scalar-kit

I want something I can take on and off quickly replacing the KU lnb, just for testing really and fancy some of the African channels on 5W some I've never seen before.

Sadly I've seen videos of this kit in America and the collar would need adapting for Gibertini Feed Arm and when they're only £11 plus postage for the proper Gibertini 60mm collar it be much neater.

eBay number: 310233384434

Thanks aceb I am looking forward to your post.

Ah sorry, thought you were referring to the dualband LNB and feed offer they are running on another thread. I've got a day off Friday and I've been meaning to try mine on C band so I'll bash up some metal to fix it in the correct spot and see what I can get. 49E-40W will be my limit of arc so it should pull in a few birds, ISTR the old 1.2 PF managed a dozen or so satellites.

That's an interesting Ebay link, I've not seen that product before and it's not listed on the Gibertini website. I wonder what size dish it's designed for as the 1m and 1.2 have different type of feed arm.

Yes, that's the same one I bought. I got the plastic collar to fit on the Gibi but it would have needed a bit of modding to make it fit the arm exactly. The metal bracket on Ebay looks a better solution. I can't use it on the Laminas as it's LNB support is a plastic collar held in place by three support arms.

Here is a collar designed for the 1.2m Gibertini:

Seems similar to the 40mm collars on the ones that come for Hisat

For some reason the URL wont work properly when pasted weirdly so had to use short URL.

Hoping for a dry Friday for you aceb

Cheers

Anyone who has spent some time tweaking the offset scalar and feed, where was the best position for the front of the throat in relation to the scalar rings? On a PF, the theory goes the front of the feed is set at the focal point and the rear of the scalar set to the corresponding dish FD value on the LNB body. Can't decide where that should be on an offset, setting the focal point is easy enough but it doesn't then lend itself to a lot a of adjustment of the scalar ring so I'd like to get it close to begin with. Are you wiv me so far?

I don't know if I spent a lot of time 'tweaking', especially as the C Band LNB was only tie wrapped to the Ku band support of the 1.2M. But, I've dug out the attached photo and the scalar rings seem to be set on the '40' mark on the LNB. Maybe this would be a good point to start?

I found enough time today to try the offset feed and C band LNB on the 1.2m Gibertini. The head end is in the correct plane thanks to the carefully bent up old Antiference boom but I've not fine tuned either the focal distance or the scalar. The weather hasn't really been conducive to standing around outside for any period time but I doubt there would be a huge difference anyway. My visible arc from this spot is 50E-60W so this is everything I've been able to get.

40E 14 TV/9Radio/1 Data
20E 31 TV/25 Radio
3.1E 8 TV
2.8E 1 Data
5W 64 TV/66 Radio
11W 1TV
18W 3 Data
22W 3 TV/1 Radio
24.5W 1 TV
27.5W 16 TV/19 Radio
37.5W 1 TV
40.5W 7 TV/22 Radio/16 Data
55.5W 36 TV/15 Radio/1 Data
58W 5 TV/3 Radio

49E, 30E and 10E were all close to locking according to CS so maybe there is room for improvement. I didn't look for 38E, 17E, 1W or 53W, nothing found on 14W, 43.1W or 50W. Weather today has been damp and heavily overcast. I'll be leaving this rigged up till tomorrow afternoon if there's anything else you want checked.

Would be interested to see if you can manage 49E at any point. Wondering if I should try erecting my 1.2m CM on my little balcony...

Please keep in mind that Aceb is a bit further South than most of us ..so will expect to catch a few more than most ..
But ..Even his results were a little better than I expected.
So c'mon you prospective Cbanders ..
Its _not_ impossible..
Paul has proved it today..
give it a go ..its exciting ..interesting ..flexible ..and rewarding..
If you are up for a challenge that is.
Nice one buddy..

Quick question I guess this could vary from LNB to LNB but are they actually 60mm or 65mm?

My dad has done a quick 3D model in a CAD software.

Some of the bends are very tight been looking at getting two exhaust clamps instead of having to fabricate everything. Using the bottom half's as the two parts of the clamp and with long bolts for clamping.

They come in 60mm so they might need a little adjusting with a half round file.

Sorry CJ, I swapped back to Ku earlier this afternoon, it was very close though I'm not sure I'd squeeze enough out of it to make it entertainment quality.

Bare in mind that the offset feed comes complete with the black LNB bracket you can see in my photos, well I'm assuming they still do! I'm not sure what dish the bracket is designed for but I had to use an 18mm square boom to fit into the slot, the most annoying thing is the angle of the bracket varies slightly from both my dishes hence the bent bit of square tube holding it to the LNB arm. I'll go measure my bracket if you still need the measurement?
