Correct. You'll get some HD channels - mostly German.

However, a lot of the commercial German HD channels are not FTA, but encrypted in Nagravision in the HD+ low cost package.

Let's see, mayb the engineers do a last message when they switch off the signals like they did with terrestrial stations here. Like this one 2008:

They showed that before they turned off the transmitter.

Most if not all of the closedowns in recent years havent had anything special - get to shutdown time and just switch off the uplink.

when the terrestrial analogue transmitters closed the engineers often did some nice farewell thingy, like waving into the camera or showing testcards etc. I still hope something like that could happen especially via the uplinks which are operated by the tv stations themselves (like BR).

It'll be the biggest satellite switching operation in history anyway... 29 TP analogue off, several digital on during one night.

Who will going to record those shutdowns? And what equipment are you going to use? I'll use two dishes and two receivers, four VCRs (two will be timecoded with GMT+0 time, and two will be without timecode), both HiFi stereo, and a PC with capture card as a reserve. Who else are going to record?

Plenty of occasions bigger than this forthcoming one. Eutelsat have transferred 20 or more tps over to another bird more than once - and that makes more than 40 tp operations (switch 20 down, transfer the uplinks over to the second bird then start powering up the new tp's)

No idea ofg the number of uplink stations involved in the past but more teleports would make things easier - less work for an individual site.
