More precisely the KS-555 from Koden.

It was in a local charity shop and without a marked price as the shop assistant really didn't know what it was (neither did I until I got home)

I will be connecting it up to a 9 volt supply tonight after checking for any potential problems inside, but nevertheless a bargain at eight pounds.

Here's one in action.

Apart from some corrosion in the battery department, the whole unit is clean and complete.

The last owner had thoughtfully run a couple of wires out from the back, with a view to using an external power source, and using a power charger from a Black and Decker drill (nominal 7.2V output), the unit powers up and everything works. The sensitivity meter on the top flicks over to maximum on any signal from the tuner, despite the gain being turned right down, but apart from that it gives a rather nice clear sound from the inbuilt speaker.
