OK, so it's not much of a project; simply an installation of a 1m Channel Master dish (formerly Tooway!). This will be going on the side of the house, with view of full arc - hoping from 70.5e all the way to 60w and beyond (not that there's much there). This will be going on the H-to-H motor that's doing the rounds on eBay at the moment and on a nice 3" pole (ooeer!)

But anyway, need some advice. I have several mounting options:

1) T&K bracket and pole - nice and simple but dog ugly.
2) A heavy duty L bracket with brace legs for support. This currently holds my Fibo 120cm at my parents but this will be taken down soon.
3) A SSS-type spider leg bracket with a short 3" pole, like this:

wm45076.jpg

I am favouring option 3 as I think it's a good compromise between aesthetics and stability. I already have two of those brackets, so I don't have to spend £SSS on it.

Thoughts?

And last but not least - where can I get a good quality 3" pole? I have a nice one in the garage that is 2m long but I don't want to hack it up as I am thinking of using it for the 1.8m dish install. The ones doing the rounds on eBay are only 1.5mm thick and I want something a bit sturdier than that. Only need 50cm length, so can't be that difficult to find ... but I can't find it.

Thanks all for all the suggestions and offers! This has given me an idea to post a 'wanted' ad in a local freecycle group - maybe someone will have something suitable. If not, I'll take up on your offer gibertini or Rimant :) transport is quite affordable from the Baltic countries to the UK thanks to all the private vans that do runs from there.

Crossbones, the heavy duty L mount that I was taking about is actually the CM wall/ground mount, hence listing it as an option. But I think having the spider legs mount will be more sturdy.

Ah yes miss understood it! I am thinking about installing my cm 1.2m on the L bracket on the side of the house. But not a big fan of mounting big dishes on houses.

Thanks all! I've had a few biters on freecycle locally, so will check them out.

Another question. What's the best way to attach the bracket to a solid brick wall? I usually use sleeved coach bolts and they never failed for me. But perhaps I am better off with something else? Rawl/anchor bolts or maybe some sort of resin?

For tidiness's sake, I would probably prefer anchor bolts - these would leave studs in the wall and would make it for light work to tighten/loosen them up.

I use these Alex, my 1.2 is hold up with them and the steel work will be twice as heavy as the dish and mount.

Yep, that's what I was thinking too, Martin, but without the bolt head:

Then I would have bolts sticking out of the wall that I could slide the spider legs on and do them up with nuts.

Or a chemical resin fixing with a threaded bar plonking out of the hole...

I think I used sleeve anchor bolts, been up that long I forgot so must be strong enough with it being above the guttering.

Anchor bolts can split the bricks on occasions, especially if the bricks are soft or the ones with holes in them. I used to hang cast iron boilers on such walls using resin.

That's my main worry about using these anchors. My dad, who used to be a construction engineer said these can split concrete slabs...

I doubt your walls are thicker than 50cm.... just make holes through and use threaded bars. Inside the house just hang some picture on the other ends of the bars.

Today you are going to hang only 1m dish, but tomorrow you might wish to have 1,8m on the same pole. So, make your pole stronger, just in case.

The only thing I may potentially do is have the 1.2m on it. No way will I be attaching a 1.8m there. The whole street will see it (followed by a visit from a local friendly* planning officer).

Personally I would go for chemical every time as I love the idea of no expansion forces on the bricks, just do do your research and make sure you get the right resin and studs for the job, after all if chemical anchors are good enough to fix crush barriers in sports stadiums then I'm sure they will be more than adequate to hold a dish.
Here's how I did mine.

https://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/dish-upgrade.153890/

If you don't like the idea of studs sticking out of your wall you can use threaded sockets although the down side is that the holes you need to drill are somewhat bigger, but if you ever decide to remove the dish then you haven't got the eyesore of protruding studs, having said that an angle grinder will make short work of them.
And yes my installation is still sound ;)
