Understand your dilemma. Inability to switch between bands effectively is what's stopping me from deploying my PF.

Do you have room for a 1.8m? I guess your CM is making its way into Chris's garden!

Iv'e used up the three available dish positions now CJ, the only option open to me is to upgrade the installation of the 1.25 Gibby to a 1.5Gibby + changer, for use on Ka/Ku bands but will entail quite a bit of structural strengthening on the mount fixing arrangement. C-Band installation will stop as it is now ... spent enough on that as it is . Re: the 1.8CM, not too sure what the outcome is for that, it might just be a spare for both of us to use if and when ?.

... Just a bit of observed info re: Norsat 8000RI C-Band 3.6 to 4.8 GHz lnb.

Iv'e had this lnb in use now for about a week.
This lnb is not as high a spec as some of the other alternatives out there and is a DRO type, but for the price i think it is pretty good. It seems to lock signals easily to say it's a slightly lower spec but will continue to use it on the 2.2 mtr for the time being.
Because of the lower spec, combined with any slight movement within the Promax, you can see the slight freq shift when receiving. The White trace is the early morning stored grab and the Yellow trace is the grab after three hours or so and a rise in outdoor temparature. The beacon spike at 4500.10 shows it well.
I like this lnb and would recommend it.

Hi - B.M. ... tried something similar a few years back ... k/u/ didn,t work particularly well ..
but it was better than the combined C/ku l.n.b that cost me about £100 .00 imported from america:) home made c ku.jpg

Its quite a way back in time now that i did this , but i don,t recall any loss in C band from cutting the back out and attaching the k/u/ ....

Nelson is right. C band works fine, but Ku really suffers. I tried them without much success on Ku.

I was asked earlier on in the thread what it would perform like on Ka or Ku, can't place either at true focus as this is a dedicated C-Band only reflector but can get pretty close to focus as a compromise.
Going to try this for a bit of an experiment & evaluation on the 2.2 ...... nothing to loose, easy as just changing scalar ring that has only one fixing screw. If it degrades C-Band performance too much then off it comes -- i have Ka & Ku bands covered already using other dedicated dishes.

Iv'e got a spare flat scalar, the same as what's in use now on the 2.2 for C-Band only.
Iv'e grafted the Inverto Ka/Ku onto it as close to focus as i can get.
Iv'e got reference readings and physical locations of equipment of dedicated C-Band frequencies documented prior to fitting the modded scalar to enable comparison.

Just about to start a similar project John, I know its not going to work :D, but what the hell, ive got nothing better to do this afternoon :),

If I can get the dish to perform like a 1,8 in KU band and a 2mtr in C band I will be happy, anything above will be a bonus, I can always swap to a single LNB if I want to chase weak signals.

Only just seen this ... :-ohcrap , Ka is a no-no, but it does work better on Ku when iv'e tried it in the past, and in those days we didn't have access to Ka stuff like we do today.

I think on Ku you won't be too far off with your predictions, crack on chap & report back :)

I had a Yuri combination like this on my Precision 1.8 (C/Ku) it worked really well.
Look forward to the results...

John,

What type of mounting arrangement did you use for the Precision 2.2m dish? From the couple of pictures showing a partial view of the back it looks like you have fabricated some type of mounting and not adapted the CM 1.8m mount to fit?

Rgds
