@charly20:
If i was planning in buying one in the next time (maybe in some years) i surely would have contacted Aerial Oy directly. I was hoping that somebody had tried this before.

What i want to find out is, which bigger dishes are able to cover the whole reception window that occurs even in the most southern european points which means that elevations of 0-50° and azimuth values of +/- 0-85° should be available. Otherwise the most eastern and western satellites could not be aimed to.

By the way, which f/D has the AS24 ?

P.S.: I wonder if the 2.4m Aerial Oy AS24 would perform so much better than a portuguese Famaval 2.30m that is using somebody right now in Thessaloniki. His results are just unbelievable. Some examples: 100.5E which is very hard to catch because of its low elevation of 1.2°, Full 83E Tata Sky on India Beam, Full 62E Iran Beam, Full 23.5E, Full 4W Amos 2 Israel Beam and even some frequencies of the 22W West Africa Beam. By the way no sign of Astra 2D.

@ deepbluesky:

The f/D of the AS24 is 0.38.

The reflector cannot go up to horizontal, due to construction. So I don't know exactly the reception window. As said, Aerial could answer that easily.

Regarding how it compares to the Famaval 230cm, I don't know. What I do know, is that, when I received the AS24, I was extremely impressed with the signal gain on 7°W. I could not believe it, having had a Gibertini 150 and a Jonsa 180, both with poor results. So you would need to compare both the Aerial and the Famaval in the same garden in order to appraise the quality of each. I am sure that the Famaval is not a bad dish.

Thanks for the info charly20 :)

Concerning your gain rise from the Gibertini OP150, no wonder since the surface of the Aerial Oy AS24 is more than 2.5x bigger.

Hi Prodelin

In post #16 on this thread, you mention that you know of someone in Italy who stocks 3.7m Prodelin dishes. I live in Italy and am interested in buying one!

However, since I am new to the forum, I cannot send private messages. As a reqular contributor, can you send a PM to me? I have tried several times to enable my VCard to that others can read my e-mail adress and contact me directly.

:-worship Moderator: This is the second thread on which I have been unable to contact people who have useful information that could help with my problem or visa versa. Could you please look into why my VCard does not work, or do I have to wait another 3 weeks before I can communicate?

So you can see my Vcard when you click on my username, but I cannot. I did not realise that you cannot see your own VCard. My profile still has no "Contact Details" tab. Is that enabled after the 4 weeks?

What feed and LNB is he using on the Famaval? Thanks.

A little OT but since you asked here are some photos: _http://www.avclub.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=26560 and the LNB an Infosat C/Ku combined: _http://www.avclub.gr/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=24697&d=1210004149
I am not sure if you can see them as non-registered there.

there is a big difrence in quality of the difrent antena brands, some 2,40 m dishes perform like a 1,80 m dish!
better dishes costs more, and you get more quality!

Famaval is not that expensive but offers resonable gain. I cannot say how much better other brands of same size are.

Thanks deepbluesky, I'll try to register to view the pics. The guy sure knows how to align the dish and make the most out of the equipment short of going for professional components. He must have a lot of fun out of this hobby and the eastern mediterranean is like a hub for europe, asia, africa anyway. I checked out the west africa beam on lyngsat and you can see there is a spike where it says 47 going north-east and when you extend that pointy bulge of the footprint in an imaginary way towards Greece it could just pierce through northwards. Maybe the tightness of this triangle like irregularity on the top line of the footprint cannot be tamed and the power goes past Greece into eastern Bulgaria, eastern Romania, central Ukraine and to Moscow in Russia. I know you never know w/ fringe reception, but I noticed a similar thing in the footprint of Astra 2D; the eirp circles are more loose going to Greece than to southern Italy. Aluminium, 1-piece Famaval must be a good dish, too:)

Well the West Africa Beam reception of 22W was something completely surprising and he was not the only one that got it partly. The last days he achieved also C-Band reception on 91.5E. It depends on the time of day which frequencies break through. This is the point where i would like to see a comparison in between his Famaval (2.30m + wings=3.10m) and a 1piece 3m of another brand used for professional purpose. But unfortunately it's rather hard to find individuals especially DXers there.
Astra 2D doesn't show any sign of life just like Eutelsat W4. For those you gotta move North at least 500km.

It's an old thread, which I found looking for some opinion about Prodelin 3.4 m antenna . I am glad I found it and saw the comment saying that 2.4 m Prodelin is better than 3.4 m Prodelin We have been struggling with a 3.4 m trying to get a better performance than a Prodelin 2.4 m offset , but the best we can get is 0.5 dB below the 2.4 m
We checked the dish alignment with strings, checked the feed position , etc but still not good.
I hope the 3.7 m is really better . We have one and will try that .

To work well, the Prodelin 8 piece antennas require a fullshakedown and reassembly on their back before thay start performing.
Additionally the models come out of the factory with different feeds for specific purposes. Is yours correct for what you are trying to receive ?

A couple of pictures would help if you can attach them.
