I need help here Guys. I’ve recently upgraded my 2.4m Famaval to a new 2.7m DH which in my little corner of Cyprus should be enough to guarantee virtually uninterrupted BBC/ITV. Installation seemed to have gone ok, however I’m having difficulty getting a fine tune on the dish, furthermore the position of the feedhorn when I go for maximum picture quality doesn’t seem right to me.

I’m only getting BBC for about ½ the day or so, it’s hard to tell as I’m out a lot – it’s really poor between 1730-2130hrs which seems far too long. I’ve tried using two Invacom Quads with similar results and also the large and small feedhorn rings, I’m not sure which is best for this dish. I’ve been told that the Scalar ring should be screwed all the way up the feedhorn but this doesn’t seem to work with my setup – it always ends up with about 1-2mm of thread protruding which is a long way short of screwed all the way! I’ve also been told that the Focal distance is 90.5cm to the end of the feed horn (male part)

It’s a brand new dish and I’ve checked it out with the old string trick and it seems fine.

I’m using a Satlook NIT to tune it. I have a Pace 2600 and Thomson 160 Sky+ box. The 2600 gets the bulk of the reception, the 160 doesn’t fair nearly so well!

Any help is very much appreciated. I’d hate to miss the queens speech;)

Cheers

No experience with your model dish or local knowledge of reception requirements but i can tell you invacoms outputs should be pointing at 5 o'clock or there abouts...good luck.

Quite strong just now mate.

ITV is 24/7 with only the odd 'sparkly' BBC is not quite so good. I think I can go further but frankly I'm starting to think that 2.7m isn't quite enough in my part of the country and I may be in a weak part of the locallity - for starters I'm near the top of the hill which is bad for noise...valleys are better for Sat reception. I'm looking to upgrade to a 3.0m DH at the moment.

BTW is it me or are those DH feedhorn adaptors REALLY difficult to setup?

Cheers

Its hard to adjust on the 2.7 because of the feedhorn bracket. Its thin and you cant slide it up and down smothly enough and if you loosen the screws too much then its not pointing to the centre as you are moving up and down.better as a 2 man job,one looking up the hole from behind the dish(but not during the equinoxes),and the other adjusting for centre and the "11 oclock"(or 5 oclock as iceman says)tightening the screws.I measure 36" to edge of feedhorn(female part).Where near limassol are you?

36" to the FEMALE part..............I'll check that on mine tomorrow. I tend not to bother about that measurement, rather I adjust it for transponder balancing. What do you set the inner male part too? What Scalar ring do you find works best on 2.7m & 3.0m DH? The big one or the small one?

I'm midway between limassol and Pissuri

Cheers

The inner part has about 3or4 "grooves" sticking out.I havent used the large scalar on the 2.7 because they werent around when i was installing 2.7's.Not much call for those, only in Paphos and I dont get much lookin over there.its all 3m these days.Theres a lot of 2.7's in Pissouri and your area but that doesnt mean they work 24/7.it probably means the punters went for cheap from cheaposat.
I use the large scalar on 3m sometimes when there are lnb problems but every job is different.
