Has anyone tried a three degree monoblock yet?

I've just had a play with one on a 1m Orbital dish (to pick up 13e and 16e) with dubious results (at least up here in NE England).

If anyones interested, measurements taken were as follows

3 Degree Monoblock
Sat: 16e
Freq:11449H
Level: 74dB microVolts
BER defore FEC: 4E-3
BER after Viterbi: 1.1E-4
MER 8.1

Comparing it to a single LNB:

Inverto 0.2dB single LNB
Sat: 16e
Freq:11449H
Level: 77dB microVolts
BER defore FEC: 8E-4
BER after Viterbi: 6E-7
MER 9.7

Doesn't leave much to play with. I've yet to try it with an 80cm but from what I've seen with the 1m, could be a bit of a lost cause.

Comments anyone?

This thread concerns the use of a 3 degree monobloc on a 60cm dish.

You may find that it will not perform to its best ability on a 1m, as they are optimised for 80cm dishes.

The strength readings you give above should give you lots of leeway on the main focus, what readings were you getting on Hotbird and what meter are you using?

Cheers rolfw.

Hotbird was fine, can't recall the readings as I was more interested in peaking 16e. I'll try a TD78 at the weekend and post the results to compare.

I'm using a Promax 4C.

Nice meter. :)

As a matter on interest, was 16E the main focus?

The 3 degree monoblock I'm using is is the Maximum MB-3. It doesn't look like a 6 degree monoblock with two distinct feedhorns protruding from it where you can choose which one to clamp to. It has two feedhorns that are moulded together so that a very wide LNB hoder has to be used (supplied with the LN:cool: and the wide LNB is clamped centrally . Hope this makes sense.

Yes, I see, so no choice as to where it sits. :)
