... there's a nice 2.3 PF for sale on your doorstep  - - but just taking that satellite at 55°W, it's linear so you won't need the loss inducing slab which is a bonus. dB levels on all the available transponders vary quite a bit for signal lock, anywhere from 3.1dB up to 9.4dB. If you want to be able to look & lock at all available tp's then you need something like the 2.3 upwards. If you are only wanting a particular Tp that requires around 5dB or so to lock then you will be ok with a 1.8 or possibly a 1.5, go for the larger for a better margin. All above-just my opinion from experience.

Hi -
I,v pretty much the same opinion as john ... the only transponder i use on here is 3728 H 4200 -2/3 8PSK for the huge selection of radio channels .. and today in "very" poor weather i have 0.6 db of margin with the 1.8.

There are a few transponders out of reach for me on this sat ... are there any particular transponders you are seeking ? .... i can check with 1.8 for you , - if you wish.
Regards ... :)

Minimum would be 1.2m to receive a few transponders but you'll soon get frustrated. I'd look for a 1.8 or 2.4, the latter is plenty big enough to pick up even the feeds on this sat and there are plenty of them.

Here is an active foot print map for 55W, select the AMECH beam (should be already selected at the top of the page) then zoom into your location and click on it, this will give you an estimated dish size needed for error free signals on 55W from your location.

Satbeams - World Of Satellites at your fingertips

I get 190 CM for downtown Sheffield, this may vary at your location.
