Ref the "real" dish size of the TD78, that's what I was thinking.

Ref the "committed" V "uncommitted" setting for the switch, TBH I've read apparently contradictory statements on "what goes infront of what" - but now I think I know :D

You mean the physical order of the switches?
Anything goes!
As long as the proper commands can reach them, through the chain.

Though 'normal' receivers do first uncommitted, then committed commands.
And I believe (I haven't really checked) diseqc 1.2 commands come after that, though the motor itself is usually installed between receiver and switches.

The order in which "normal" receivers send, and then resend them if necessary, the commands seems to be a significant issue - "obviously" the TM and SX88 do seem to send them "enough" times for the end-point LNBs to react acordingly when used with my 16-1 switch.

OTOH, I would have thought that the "first" switch must have to pass all the commands down the chain to "everywhere" "immediately" the receiver sends them - and thus to all connnected LNBs - for this to work, but I didn't yet find anything to positively confirm that in what I have read to-date (in fact, sometimes, quite the opposite).

Maybe someone more "educated" can point to something to definitely clarify that issue?

To which I obviously don't count? :):)

As you probably have read in the eutelsat documents, diseqc has a "bus protocol", and therefore can be used parallel and serial, which they described also. As I wrote:

So the "everywhere, immediately" is not important.
When a diseqc switch gets power, first the "default port" (1 or A) is chosen, and only after that a relevant switching command is executed.
The non-targetted LNBs don't need to get a command or a voltage, as they are not targetted.

Only some 22kHz (e.g. from Ecoda) switches (common in USA) pass diseqc commands and power permanently; diseqc switches do NOT.

Examples of 'nonconventional' diseqc setups:
receiver - diseqc1.1 UC1 - diseqc1.1 UC3/4 - diseqc1.0 - LNBs in DISEqC, 20 lnb's schakelen
parallel use of diseqc 1.0 in Parallel schakelen van diseqc switches
I believe @Vipersan also used diseqc 1.0 and 1.1 parallel, or in the nonconventional order. Its in this forum, and was at that time an inspriration to me to investigate diseqc protocol further. :)
Cannot find an easy link though; he posted too much.... :confused

I've not seen the order receiver - committed switch - uncommitted switch - LNBs used often in forums, but the few times I've seen it, I've always liked the creativity and nonconventionality of it!

Edit: added a bit.

REALLY, REALLY sorry because, by "more educated", I meant more educated than ME!! Thus I was most definitely NOT referring to yourself:-doh

Well, I didn't take it as offence. Hence my smileys!

And BTW, I don't think you are an offensive person. :)

Edit: I believe there also is/was an EMP-Centauri switch, that actively repeated the received diseqc command!

And, of course: most, or all, receivers do resend the diseqc commands, when they cannot lock to a transponder in a certain amount of time. The time span for that is quite different between receivers, I noticed.

Ah! YOU were the source of that!

See Techomate M5402 M3 and Diseqc setups - SatsUK

Edit: And here is one of the unconventional setups by Vipersan: A 10 way diseqc switch - SatsUK
And a later setup, with 16/1 parallel to diseqc 1.0 :) : DiSEqC 1.1 16x1 Gecen GD-1601A - SatsUK

Greetz,

As you could see, I wasn't the "source of that" - just the "messenger" passing on the comments from EMP-Centauri Tech Support!

The Vipersan stuff was also very interesting, but I have no intention of trying anything like he did - far too "complicated" for me!
(and does anyone know how Evan is ATM as we haven't heard from him in a while?)
