hi all

ok let me begin, last year my brother in law who,s turkish brought over his digiturk digital receiver and his card, we were told we needed a 80cm dish to pick it up, so we got the dish and the lnb etc and had it fitted and pointed to eutelsat w3 and no digiturk, the signal who never go beyond halfway up the scale, so we never got it sorted and this year we would like to sort it, we still have the 80cm dish and would like some advice on what else we need, we are going to buy a receiver so he dont have to carry his with him every year, so on to the questions

1. is a 80cm dish big enough, i live in belfast, northern ireland, i think its either turksat 1c@42 east or eutelsat w3@7 east we will be pointing at, i take it the closer to the edge of the footprint the bigger the dish you need? i was looking at the footprints here and i seem to be 42-45 db which i take is signal strengh. if anyone know any other sat's we can point at could you list them please.

2. do we need a special lnb, we were supplied 1 when we bought the dish but were wondering if we needed a special 1 and if so which 1

3. we are going to buy a receiver so could anyone recommend a good range, i will be probably be looking to spend around 100-150 pounds for now, or if someone could tell us what we should be looking for in a receiver, that would be great as well

i think thats it for now fellas, i would to know a few things before i phone an engineer to come do it for me, i will search the forums but if anyone know of posts that could answer my questions could you throw me a link.

many thanks in advance
stevie.

Hi spilffbizzie
Your best satellite is Turksat at 42 East you should be able to pick up with 80cm dish. Providing your LNB is universal it will be ok.
According to the list in Whatsat the bulk of providers on that sat are in the clear with a few in viaccess, and Digiturk in Cryptoworks, so to recive digiturk, even with a card you will require a reciver with A CI slot and cam that will open these encriptions check the Dragon and Matrics cam's to see if they will open the encriptions for you remember a cam and programmmer will set you back about £120.

hi lofty
thanks for the reply mate, i have been reading the forums, and looking at receivers and if i have got this right i would need a receiver with 1 or 2 ci slots, a cam, and a programmer, if i get the cam i can programme it to decrypt viaaccess etc, am i also right in thinking that i could watch any free channels on turksat 1c and eurasiasat 1 without a cam, because the channel we really want to watch is ntv which show the premier leauge matches live and on lyngsat its listed as free tv ? i will do a bit more reading in the forums to see if i can answers to more questions before i post them . thanks again lofty mate .

Which NTV does show premier league ?
If it is NTV Avrupa the reception is easy but if it is NTV Türkiye i would say impossible, maybe with a 3-5m dish where you are since it's transmitting over the East beam http://www.eurasiasat.com/sats/foot/Ecover.htm .

Hi spliffbizzie.
Unable to help you out at this time. Have just tried to to add Turksat at 42E and have only got half a signal. She who must be obyed and Ray next door have decided to let a couple of conifers grow quite tall in the line of sight so just eight stations arrived on scan. If it helps TV 8 have a Juv via Chi match on air just starting the second half.

hi lofty deepbluesky

deep you are right mate, it will be ntv avrupa, which is coming off eurasiasat 1 on the s1 beam, as far as we know ntv turkey and ntv avrupa show the same programmes, so you should be able to get the football off either. thanks a lot lofty for trying to get that sat mate, think its time to get the chainsaw out and give rays trees a bit off a trim lol :) , until i get my new receiver could (thinking about a humax 5500ci what you using fellas?) could i use my sky digital receiver ? or can it only be used for sky digital? gonna do a bit of reading spk to u both later. thanks again fellas.

Ahh i didn't know that they are showing the same, thanks for the info spliffbizzie :)
It's because many Turks in Germany try to get the Turkey beam and this is not impossible but requires a solid 3m dish. Especially the frequencies of Türksat 1C are weak. In Vienna the situation is much better. There a 2.40m dish is sufficient for 24/7 reception.

You might find you are better off with the 7E transmissions - the satellite slotted here was changed earlier this year, and i can now get the fta Turkish channels with a battered secondhand dish as easy as anything here in south Scotland.

Hi spliffbizzle
As analoguesat says there are a large number of Turkish transmissions on 7E, the bulk of them are encrypted in Cryptoworks, so you will still require his reciver or a cam and card.
Have just had a read on there webb site and think your best bet is to get him to bring the reciver and card with him then hide them both when he is packing to go home.

hi guys
sorry i anit been on, had a death in the family and didnt feel like using the pc much, thanks analoguesat for the reply, 7e was the sat we were trying to get last year, but after speaking to my brother in law and my sister, they dont want digiturk they only really had it for the english channels, everything he really wants to watch is coming off turksat1c/eurasiasat1 @ 42east, and most of it is clear so i think thats the one we will try and get. i have loads more questions but i think they need to go in a different section. thanks again fellas.

Looked at the footprint map The Turksat 1C west beam channels on 42E should be ok in Ireland with an 80-90cm dish, although some of them are a sod to get as they are low symbol rate, and they use split frequency transponders so the transmission powers are all over the place. In my experience with 42e, the bigger the dish the better although I did get the TRT transponder on 11096V 27500 3/4 on a 43cm minidish during good weather last summer! That tp is a good one to use for the initial alignment as its a high sr as well.
