I'm sure you didn't mean to leave out Hitchcock's finest, Stick, so I'll add some of my favourites from this great director.

In no particular order of preference:

Psycho
Rear Window
Vertigo
North By Northwest
The Birds
Rebecca
Strangers On A Train

Some of his pre-war English films I thought were silly, An exception being Rebecca.

He had a penchant for blonde actresses, a great deal of sexual tension is apparent in those particular films.

I'd agree with most of those above, plus many more, some may seem a little unsophisticated now, but were great in their day.

Some early favourites:

Whiskey Galore
The Titchfield Thunderbolt
Horse Feathers
Ivan the Terrible
Seven Samurai
The Magnificent Seven
The 39 Steps
Kim
To Kill a Mockingbird
All Quiet on the Western Front
West Side Story
2001 Space Odyssey
Last of the Mohicans
Turk 182
The Godfather
Goodfellows
BladeRunner
1900
Mississipi Burning

Yeah, 2001 ASO and Blade Runner were close to getting into my list.

I don't think sophistication should come into it. It's not about snobery; for me it's simply about the films you love(d) watching.
I'm not embarrased by the fact that I included Toy Story! :-rofl2

Oooh, nearly forgot Scum, Quadrophenia, McVicar, Lock Stock....

Oh alright. I'll get my coat... :-bash

Saturday Night Fever is my all time favourite movie. Thought you could play DVDs thousands of times & never lose quality? My Sat Night Fever dvd is really bad quality now and only played it a few hundred times. Must get another one for Fathers Day next year.

How's about condensing 2 hours of "Lost In Translation" into a one sentence critique:

"A married, unhappy, middle-aged actor, in Japan for the making of a TV commercial, meets a newly married, but unhappy, beautiful 19-year-old blonde whom he falls in love with, and vice versa, all except there's no "vice", because he flies home on the next plane available and never sees her again.

The end."

Oops, sorry's that's two sentences. :D

Best (and shortest) synopsis I've seen for a film is for 'I Am A Camera' -

'Me no Leica'
