There are now several sites now onstream catering for the Triple Dragon, with tools for uploading images, editing settings etc.

I'll add some information on how I set up the receiver for networking, transferring images and other stuff.

I'm no expert, some of the members on the various forums dealing with the TD have the advantage of owning a dreambox before getting the TD - the German and Dutch boards in particular are very helpful in answering questions from UK owners, and adding relevant information from their sections to the English one.

I was pretty impatient to get the TD up and running 'out of the box', and as it stands it's fairly straightforward to set up, with an easy to understand menu system, but take time to read the manual, and check as much information as you can beforehand other users' questions and answers in the various forums.

NB - Blame me but don't flame me for any mistakes or misinformation contained in this guide - I'm the only one presently working on it, unlike T_G and his merry band of Dreamers' Idiot (their words) Guides :) . Just post any updates etc., on a separate thread, and a Mod (myself or any other Mod who happens to be lurking in the area) will add them to this one. That'll keep this one tidy.

New users of the Triple Dragon may find the following links of interest. Various European countries have forums catering for the receiver, but very little exclusively of UK origin.

Firstly, the maker's website -

http://www.armas.com.tw/2005/products_td.asp - specifications of the receiver and the other boxes that will complement this one (HDD, PVR, DVD Recorder, MP3, Dolby AC3, 2X80W & 3X25W amps and many other facilities)

www.armas.pl The Polish Website forofficial image downoads, support, technical data, OSD screenshots etc.

http://www.tripledragon-fan.de/anleitung/eng/html/dokumente.html - The official German site. Download your manual from here (you don't get one with your receiver).

http://www.tripledragon-fan.de/board - Official forum. Has an English section.

_www.ucassupport.nl/triple-dragon/english/index.htm - Nice site that offers unofficial images. Has an Engish section.

_www.triple-dragon.s4.gmc.to/wb/wbb2/hmportal.php Another German site

_www.tdforum.no./ Norwegian

_www.turkeyforum.com/satforum/

_www.triple-dragon-fan.nl/ Dutch Forum

_www.satforum.cz

Several of the well-known sites also have TD sections, e.g. JKF, satdudez, fookfiles.

Being larger than many STB's, there's room inside for plenty of air circulation.

CI slot

I've only used Matrix Rev, but I understand it can take Matrix reloaded, Alphacrypt,Magic, Aston 1.05, Freecam. There's a problem with the Dragon Cam which necessitates removal of a resistor in the box. Details on various forums.

2 card slots to take Conax cards.

Hard Disk

Pic1 shows my TD with a Samsung SP1614N 160GB HD installed. Recommended, no problems recording and it runs very quiet.

USB Port

There ain't one! You can obtain a 'Dragontail' which connects to the system bus socket at the rear of the receiver. I notice there's space for a USB socket on the sys. bus sub-board which would come out next to the sys. bus connector. (pic2). Perhaps this was intended to be used before the other boxes were developed? (Box2 has its own USB port).

Not needing the sys. bus provision, I sabotaged a PC USB backplate and whipped off the USB connector, fitting it in place of the sys.bus connector (pic3). Cheaper than the Dragontail, and easy to revert to the original connector if and when the other units are purchased.

I don't really need to say a great deal on aspects of networking with the TD (cop-out clause in action) as there is an excellent howto available giving details on configuring the TD's bootloader, together with descriptions of setting up your IP addresses via the OSD menu and your PC.

Points to note -

1/ Use a crossed LAN cable if connecting the TD direct to your PC, and a straight LAN connection if going through a hub or router.

2/ When using the bootloader for updating images. the local and remote IP's have to be reset to your own settings if you don't set 'initialise at powerup' via the bootscreen before image transfer. I found this out the hard way when I first used the TD, as the manual didn't mention this action.

Images for the TD

No problem in uploading the wrong image to your Triple Dragon - there's only one TD (at the time of writing)

At present there's these images available, versions are updated frequently though, so check the websites occasionally. -

Some notes on the Samba configuration:
-------------------------------------

You have to call this at least once, to get samba working. If you only
enable the Samba server and save this with the default values, your STB
will be visible inside a MS Windows network, but you are not able to
access the server, because there is no password set. So you have to
enter the password you wanna use before you save the config. Of course,
this is only necessary once.

Samba special notes:
-------------------

If you change any settings in the Samba configuration and you have accessed
the server before by a Windows client (i.e. MS Windows 98, 2000, XP), it
can happen, that you are not able to access the server from this client
for a very long time (several hours). This is because Windows clients are
really slow sometimes in updating their server list.

If you change the username and/or the password and you are logged into the
server, it's a good idea to restart the Windows client, because Windows is
caching the last used login username/-password and will not detect your
change. In this case you will only get an "access denied" message from your
Windows client.

Samba do not accept passwords with special character. Only latin characters
and numeric characters are allowed.

If you are using really old Windows 95 clients, do not forget to install
the network security patch from Microsoft. This Samba server uses
encrypted passwords, but the original Windows 95 version without that
patch only transmit passwords in plain format over the network.

And now, the content of the usb-readme.txt:

Since the Linux-Kernel 2.6.12 our old code to mount USB-storage devices wan't
work at all, because the kernel now makes a lot of test before a device becomes
available to the userspace. For a typical device this takes up to 6 seconds. The
older kernels only needs less than a half second. So this kernel change was a
good cause to rewrite most of the USB-hotplugging stuff. Now there is a new
/sbin/hotplug kernel-helper, which handles all the necessary hotplug stuff for
storage devices and networking. This helper also integrates an automounter for
SCSI-devices. Remember, all USB storage-devices are emulated SCSI-devices in the
Linux-enviroment. So, the main-application needs no additional time anymore for
the USB-subsystem except for loading plugins from such devices.

With this new USB-handling also the naming is changed. In /mnt/usb you will see
all USB-storage devices in the naming "SCSI-device-name - Vendor - Model", where
"SCSI-device-name" is sda1, sda2, sdb4 or something els beginning with "sd".
"Vendor" typically is the manufactor of the device and "Model" is the description
given by the manufactor.
