Any way, how do you change a light bulb?:-rofl2
Well of course it depends on whether it's an Edison Screw type or Bayonet type.

Both types come in different sizes but this has no effect on the method. With both types make sure that the bulb, if it's been recently switched on, has been allowed to cool. Use a cloth over the glass envelope to contain the glass if it breaks.

Bayonet

Push the bulb into the holder slightly, twist anti-clockwise by about 10 degrees and then remove.

Edison Screw

Rotate the bulb anti-clockwise until it has fully unscrewed from its holder.

With both types assembly is the reversal of disassembly.

This covers all eventualities I think. ;)

Ah, but I wouldn't class them as "bulbs".

But if I did, you'd then be forgetting about the mains halogen type...

Hi,
After reading all the useful information on here I have managed to successfully change my own light bulb. I wouldn't have dreamed of attempting this on my own before joining this forum. My question is this.

Can someone recommend the best way to dispose of the old light bulb?

I apologize if this question has already been asked, but having searched the forum haven't been able to find the answer.

I'm sorry if I am missing something here, but that is where I have just installed the new one. I take it you are referring to my back passage, which is pitch black without a light in it.

Thanks.

In that case just carefully recycle it by gently smashing the glass (using protective equipment of course) which should then be placed in a non perforating safety vessel for collection by a glass recycling company, then split up the remaining componants firstly find all the pieces of the element as these a tungsten wire then desolder the connection tips and hammer the remaining cylinder into a neat block.

Oh and if you cannot be arsed doing that then do what everyone else does and wrap it in a newspaper and stick it in the bin

Thanks Topper,
Think I will go for the second suggestion. Don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Just shows how important it is to plan the job from start to finish - before you start.

Thanks again!

I managed to save myself a lot of money by fixing my dishwasher with a few tablets of Kukident :)

How dare you post a dead link read the rules!! :p

P.S I used a light to shine into the dishwasher so not completely off topic

P.P.S There is a different thread for "resuscitation" topics

You will be surprised to know that most of the problems with dishwashers not working is down to fatty deposits in hoses and water passages...Hotpoint, is it a British make? If it is the dishwasher equivalent of Rover then Kukident won't work :p Try sulfuric acid mixed with TNT
