Hello,

what type of actuators should I have buy for Channel Master 180 Type 243? Polar mount I have to made by myself. I want to rotate from ca 43W - 80E.

But what motor?

Is QARL 3624 ok? Or Better QARL 3636? Operate with V-Box.

Thank you for info!

How can I recognize what is clone and what is original Super Jack? Is the attached actuator clone or genuine?

Thank you!

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Type 243 is not a 1.8m design. The clue is in the numbers.

Always go for the longer actuator if you have enough space behind the dish though.

Sorry, Type 183 :-) 3636 are very rare available. 3624 sometimes, so if 3624 would be enough, it wil be better.

The accuracy of the tracking will be compromised by use of a smaller length actuator, but try it and post results.

Do not overreact! I was operating 180cm with 18" between 63E-45W for many years without any problem, and with 24" between 83E-58W with ease.
It's all in the construction of the polarmount.

Using the full travel of each actuator results in a difference of 33% in pulse count on the same polarmount.

The o/p is looking at following an arc in excess of 120 degrees.

Don't forget that where you are in the world plays a huge role in your arc width. The closer to the equator you are, the wider the arc.

I am far from the equator ... like most of us here in Europe. :)

Ok, Thank you all for reactions! The construction of mount will be as on the picture. So small modification of AZ/EL mount. Or is that bad idea?

No bad idea as long as the mounting spot of the actuator is at the right place and distance from the pole.
It's also important to consider the mounting side, East or West ... depending on you GEO location. For the range you've mentioned, it should be on the West.

I would probably put the actuator on the East side if I was in Bohemia.

Eather side, with 24" actuator practically no difference for the above desired travel span. In the West it should be on the East side and in in the East it should be on the west side.

Only 10 degrees or so in it.

I would still go on the East, give everything an easier life, regardless of the actuator length, though the longer the more accurate .

Actually, it would be interesting to know if the longer worm drive gives better protection against corrosion creeping down from the rubber boot near the primary rose joint.
