I've won 2, 12inch superjack actuators on ebay and have arrived today

they are much bigger than 12inch more like nearly 24 when fully extended

so why say they are smaller than they really are ?

has it always been like this as glad i didn't bid on the 18inch ones as they would have been overkill for a 1metre andrews dish i'm going to use on

is there anything i need to do on them before fitting or can i just bolt on the polar mount and wire up and away i go ?

thanks

I also had no idea what size actuator arm I needed, you can see from this post. The actuator in that photo turned out to be a 12 inch arm. On that 1.2m I could get from 30w to 33e with a 12 inch and on my 1.2m channel master I can see from 30w to 45w with an 18 inch.

I think the quoted size is measured by how much the actual arm extension is.

You don't need to do anything before installing but my advice would be to wire it up first before attaching it to the polar mount. Also work out what you want your most westerly satellite to be as you will want to attach your arm completely retracted whilst the dish is pointed to that satellite.

Yes, the quoted length is the reach of the piston. When you clamp it to the mount at the piston end, you have the 12" piston movement to move your dish.

I had tables with my SMW installation to work out the arm length to unscrew to before mounting, the length depending on my azimuth angle. This gave me the correct EW reach across the arc when finally installed.

I never did that with my converted wiper motor, I wonder why I have been on the arc for the last 20 years :confused

Don`t forget to set the limits inside the motor after you have connected it all up;)

Dont allow the piston to rotate if you power your actuators while off the
dish. I use a long screwdriver through the end UJ.
