Hi All

Does anyone know what the transistor is (or its equivalent) marked as Q3 (C3205) on an AD3000IP PSU Card. As I cant find any information on this.

TIA.

It's a medium power (1W) type, difficult to find in a TO92 case. I suggest you try one in the BD series from Farnell (BD439, BD135-16 etc.) Different case, leadouts, but plenty of power to spare. May need to extend the leads to fit in though.

Hi Llew

Thanks for the advice, but ive found an original 2SC3205 in a local TV repair shop, Ive fitted it to the psu and all seems to be working ok apart from not been able to pick up any vertically polarized signals, after inspecting the main board more closely ive found a fried smd transistor as Q909 marked up ZA 5A, Tried Erosat but they dont seem to want to help unless you spending lots of money.

OK, found it behind C951.

ZA 5A is a BC807-16 PNP transistor (Maplins code N19AF for instance).

It's in the LNB voltage switching circuitry (hence your inability to access vertical channels).

Normal voltages on H channels - Emitter 6.5V Base 5V Collector 0V

Normal voltages on V channels - Emitter 1.5V Base 0.8V Collector 0V

For lead identification purposes (to check voltages), Collector is the single lead on the left, Base is the lower lead, Emitter the top one, looking from above the device.

Hope this is the only problem (!). Maybe a S/C in the LNB cable etc. caused the original fault? It should have shut down the supply though. I had a similar S/C fault a while back, and had to replace Q903.

Regards

Hi Llew

Thanks for all your help, Ive also got it down to a BC807-16 but I wasnt 100% sure, as there is a large hole in the middle destroying part of the number.

For future reference A pack of ten BC807-16 from RS stock no. 287-358 £0.70 just got to solder the little Bu**er in now, should be fun.

Anyway Thanks again for your help.

Hi Llew and anybody with a AD3000IP,

Got the old AD up and running again, Ive been pretty busy sorting it out in between work, Kids and wife.

Replaced Q909 With BC807-16 and replaced all PSU caps + main hv caps, all seems to be working ok, no other faults!
fitted a new fan as the 1 i fitted about 3 years ago the bearing is u/s, as i previously bonded heatsinks to all hot chips and milled 1 to fit the processor well, fitted with my new fan.

Also moved my 1.2mtr channel master dish and mount further down my garden mounted on to a 3" heavy guage pipe fixed to some mean looking fabricated brackets i welded up at the weekend, then fitted on the corner of my garage, as the previous position had the apex of my house blanking about 28 - 50 Deg. East.
All i need now is an updated channel database if sombody has 1, or where can i find1, and system software (if there is a newer 1,I have 1100 Beta).

I will upload photos of new pole, dish shortly

Don't think there is newer software for the reciever, updating the database myself for the last years manually, or use Lostone's files from satdudez.

Using the Lynnsat data for new transponders, or my local satellite magazine to feed the reciever for new sat's or transponders, do an rescan, and sort the favourites out again, part of the fun ;)

Still going strong here, not replaced one part of the reciever yet, but it does what i want analog/digital, driving my actuator fine.

Cheers,

Cor
