Update re Badr-6 MENA Beam:

I re-scanned the Badr-6 MENA beam transponders today and obtained improved results compared to my scan of a few months ago. It certainly seems as though the signal level of the Badr-6 MENA beam has increased.

I managed to lock several transponders that I had previously failed to lock, notably 12456H, SR27500 and 12476H SR27500. For anyone in a UK location wishing to try to lock some of the frequencies from the MENA beam of Badr-6 it seems a good time to have a try, just in case the signal levels drop back from their current levels.

Attached below is a small table presenting the Badr-6 MENA beam scan results and a couple of channel pictures. The "Inv C120 Scan 2" column is today's scan result, the column to it's left is the previous scan of several months ago.

@ MB - do us a favour, will you take a snap of the Precision feed you are using on the 2mtr PF when looking at the MENA frequencies - - i'll tell why later.

It is the Precision feed with the feed throat aperture protruding beyond the plane of the scalars. I have the other version of the feed where the feed throat aperture is recessed with respect to the plane of the scalars but the one currently in use on the Precision 2.0m dish is with the feed throat protruding.

The waveguide attached to the feed is the AD11CP model with circular input and output ports with the output having a C120 fitting.

Ok ta, I only have two types available here - one type came off some 1.2 PF Precisions and the other came off a 1.8 PF Precision, snag is i can't remember what came off of what. One of them has the feed throat protruding about 1mm and the other one has the feed throat popping out about 3 to 4mm. I use the same waveguide adapter as you. I managed to get a lock off 11.803 H MENA but it's proving difficult to use the dedicated Cband feed arrangement to act as a Ku dock at focus. Tried an offset configuration but not very good - side lobes everywhere

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

One point that might be useful to note is that I had to individually peak Badr-6 and manually adjusted the polarity skew to maximise the signal. After quite a while messing around I managed to lock all 8 of the Badr-6 MENA signals between 11727 and 11862 and also locked 12456 and 12476.

I noticed that the signals increased this evening as the evening progressed. The final table after all peaking and tweaking with improved signal levels is attached below along with a few more channel screen shots.

@John

Here you go, a picture of the feed on the Precision 2.0m dish.

I measured the scalar steps and the centre throat ring is protruding 2mm from the adjacent middle ring which is protruding 4mm from the outer ring.

Thank you sweet child - i have the same one as that but it's on a 1.2 Precision at the moment. The one i did a quick bodge with for the MENA stuff is like this one in the pic

That is a very old Precision Ku feed, possibly dating back to the old design of their dishes before it was changed?

Having not touched my dish in months, I thought I'd give it a go. Though I do remember getting at least some B6 TPs. Did manage to get most DVB-S transponders from NW Africa Beam and a couple of Es'hail-2 ones as well...

Signal is generally down across the board by a dB or so - the dish is really dirty is there's foliage growing around it (have cleared it up). Can't remember the LNB - Inverto White I think with the CM feedhorn.
