After years of great service the time has now come to buy a new receiver.
My Humax VACI5300 is still working without probs but only with the addition of Aston and joker cams along with a seperate diseq 1.2 positioner box.

I would like to know your opinion on the best receiver to buy at the moment without going to costly extremes.

I need diseq switching to move the motor, internal upgradeable cam, possibility of a hard disk but not essential, easy scanning and over-the-air updates would make life easier.

Due to the latest changes a box that can today clear TPS & D+ would prove to me to be a certain future proof buy, what would you advise?

Budget approx €435 (£300).

Only one thing to say Tiggy, Dreambox 7000 series. :)

Internal Hard drive
DiseqC 1.2
Numerous and switchable firmware images
Numerous and switchable Softcams
Great support from multiple sources
Networkable
etc, etc, etc

PS. you can buy one for £300. :)

I had thought about the dreambox but was slightly concerned about it hanging.
Is this a problem or only applicable to using the incorrect image/

They only tend to go over once in a while, and only then if you have loads of duff addons loaded and try to change channel at the speed of light.

Keep your image clean and tight, and they're just as reliable as anything else. My Nokia Freeview box bites the dirt way more often than my 7000.

Thanks BGonaSTICK.
I currently "pipe" my signals around the house with UHF booster and would I be right in that the Dreambox does not have a UHF out terminal.

Is there any way of sending the signal easily to more than one other tele without a digisender.

Also whats the difference in a 7000,7000s, 7000sn, 7020 etc..

Sorry to keep this thread drawn out with questions but I live in France and my french isnt too good to talk tech with French sales.

Regards
Tiggy.

No, that's right. No RF out.

Not as easily as that maybe, but one or two ways. I'm far from being an expert on this (mainly because I'm not that interested) but there are options. The cutest way is probably video streaming over IP via Ethernet. Requires either Fast Ethernet cabling or Wireless-G, plus some hardware at the TV end (or just software at a PC/HTPC). I'm also sure that there are black boxes to convert the SCART output.

7000's are all the same (AFAIK). Correctly known as the DM-7000S. 7020 is a new box, but not released into the wild yet.

HTH.

Either an RF modulator, or use a video to produce the RF signal for distribution.

Given time, you'll be checking the TD section to see what you're missing... :D

Stick, is there a specsheet for the 7020?
Just for comparison with the TD.

Think so. I'll try and find it for you. Very good post on Toes about the 7020 with some good internal pics.

Sorry Tiggy for 'jacking your thread, I'll start a new one with my findings. :-ohmy
