We have had several threads started in the last few days about the loss of AFN programming from 13E. This is because AFN has moved from Hotbird 13E to Eurobird 9A at 9E.

Whilst each situation is different the fix is common to all our military lads - the AFN receive dish needs realigning from 13E to 9E, and the receiver(s) need retuning.

These are the threads running atm - you might find the info you need on them:

It strikes me as very odd that AFN hasn't widely promulgated (there's a classic Military expression!) these changes well in advance, to those who might be affected, like, errm, American Forces abroad.

Isn't that classed as a SNAFU ? (another classic military expression I believe)

Considering AFN has been running for MONTHS on 9E all camps have had plenty of time to get the dishes moved.

(According to KoS AFN launched on 9E way back in mid May.)

The info obviously hasnt got to the blokes who run the receive systems in some areas.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Heck, they only have stick 'AFN' into Googoyle and the first hit will take them to the necessary info.

I'm glad to hear it - but why are we getting so many urgent requests for assistance?

The AFN switch from Hotbird to Eurobird was widely publicised on AFN networks (sat and radio), however, the transponder they have chosen is the weakest signal in a 5 degree arc (6 different satellites if I remember correctly). This means that we are all trying to find the WEAKEST signal in the area. Also, the garbage receivers that are available are VERY picky about signal levels. Trust me, have done over 2 dozen in the last month.

hello, they know the signal is weeker.
i have done a lot more than 2 dozen here in naples.
all transponders on that sat are lower than hot bird.
if i mesured the afn lobe at the dish i would get 66 db on hotbird with the average lnb.
on 9a i am getting 59 db.
but i still get a signal quality of 4 to 6 where i was getting 6 to 9 on the decoder.
this is from a 80 cm dish.
i have set up afn on a 60 cm dish and realigned a 30 cm dish with short runn and got it to work.
afn last weekend started sports hd on channel 801.
if you got the new decoder you picked it up.
it will be years probably 2015 or so until afn is 100% hd and all the old decoders can be tossed.

Thats weird - EB9A is the old Hotbird 7A so should be chucking out a HUGE signal. No problems with the signals here in the uk :D
