pushing up doesnt do anything?

You have to press the 'channel up' button at the boot screen, and keep it held until the LCD displayes 'Flash Erase' (about 5-10 seconds).

You're probably way past this stage now... LOL

Have you opened it up at all? When it hangs does it hang on the bootup screen (with image on screen) or does it go onto a black screen? I can tell you i have a null modem cable 9 pin f-f connector and when i initially tried it on my computer, it didn't work. Try both com ports, then try someone elses computer if you can. I have limited knowledge.... :D of bootloaders, but going by what everyone else says you should be alright. Keep trying and goodluck.

'channel up' definatley doesnt work, i just stays on the boot screen.

the the cable i have is 25pin m-m with a converter m-f 25-9 at each end, whihc is probably not the best.

gonna go buy a striaght m-m 9 pin cable today and try again tonight...

If the LCD is working with information on the image on it I'm sure the bootloader is OK...

In my case the 5600 boot was scroling but the bootloader was corrupt.Had to send it back for repair.The only thing to be sure about the bootloader is trying Hyperterminal.

just come to it now, after being out all day and the damn dunt wanna turn on???

flick the on switch at the back and the "the_hydra zeus" boot screen appears and "5600 boot" is scrolling across the LED display but its just stuck there???

any idea's?

Thought you lads would be up and running by now. A few questions.
Which image are you using, Is your box connected to the Net via ethernet cable.
If you keep changing images all the time you will get mixed up with the function buttons and what the image can do. I loaded the Hydra Anaghrad on the 5620 2/3 months ago on one of my mates boxes and the Zeus a few weeks ago on another. They are all working fine at the moment and no reason to change them with new images.
My advice to you is get your box set up to the net first, Pick an image that we all know well like the hydra, the panel needs to be updated by using ftp so you can download cams & ke*s.
You dont need to be using the null modem cable as this leads to all sort of problems like flash erasing, holding buttons on receivers.
Download flash wizzard pro and use this. You DONT need to hold buttons on the receiver after you flash with FW Pro. + it only takes 2 mins to flash an image.
At this stage you know how to set up your sats. Back up your image and settings. Then go and explore other images and if you mess up just load your saved image and you will be back to normal.
On the 5620 there is limited var space so only load 1 cam (Newcamd 5.28) and 1 set of keys. Reboot and happy viewing.
If your having trouble using ftp or flash wizzard pro setting up sats or motor con fig come back and we will sort you out.
Manually find Sats 1st is another tip I would reccommend as some Images Go To Function dont work properly.
Here is a guide on how to find them I did for my mates some time ago, it might be usful.

When you connect to your box through Hyperterminal and you get something like this:

Dreambox DM5620

Dreambox DM5620 - Bootloader V.1.00 - 04.10.2003

------- System Info --------
Processor speed = 252 MHz
EBIU speed = 63 MHz
Amount of RAM = 48 MBytes

--- Device Configuration ---
Power-On Test Devices:
000 Disabled System Memory [RAM]
002 Disabled Ethernet [ENET]
----------------------------
Boot Sources:
001 Enabled Application in Flash [FLASH]
002 Disabled Ethernet [ENET]
local=0.0.0.0 remote=255.255.255.255 hwaddr=0009341ea077
003 Disabled Serial Port 1 [S1]
Program exception
SRR0=00000000 SRR1=00000000 ESR=00000000

Die ... :-(

Then your bootloader is corrupt but if you get something like that:

Dreambox DM5620

Dreambox DM5620 - Bootloader V.1.00 - 04.10.2003

------- System Info --------
Processor speed = 252 MHz
EBIU speed = 63 MHz
Amount of RAM = 48 MBytes

==========
--- Device Configuration ---
Power-On Test Devices:
000 Enabled System Memory [RAM]
002 Enabled Ethernet [ENET]
----------------------------
Boot Sources:
001 Disabled Application in Flash [FLASH]
002 Disabled Ethernet [ENET]
local=0.0.0.0 remote=255.255.255.255 hwaddr=0009341ebc51
003 Disabled Serial Port 1 [S1]
Baud = 9600
----------------------------
Automatic Boot: Disabled
----------------------------
1 - Toggle Power-On Tests
2 - Change a Boot Device
3 - Change IP Addresses
4 - Ping test
5 - Change Baud Rate for S1 Boot
7 - Toggle Automatic Boot
D - Display Configuration
S - Save Changes
0 - Exit Menu and Boot Application

Then probably you are ok.

Waht's erase.img?

If I remember you just select erase from the DreamUp window - don't load anything until you get the OK message.

Then upload the latest official image off the website 1.06 (5620) and try that.

The instruction manual asks you to put these in the DreamUp window under 'use network' option - this may be if you are using an Ethernet crossover cable which make the whole deal faster.

Check pages 36 - 37 of the manual.

my box does not have an ip at the min, so i cant connect via tcp/ip

if i try and change ip through hyperterminal, it asks for a local ip and a remote ip?

anyway, for some unknown reason, dreamup has connected now, so ive clicked erase to see what happens?

Load official image then flash erase on startup...

Fingers crossed.

P.S. get the image off the official site twice images from the OZ site have trashed my box!

Load official image then flash erase on startup????

dont ya mean erase (which i have done) then flash official image?

i dont wanna reboot now and realise the box is totally clean of ANYTHING and cant connect EVER again?

so to clarify:

I have erased, so it says flash erase complete. do i now:

a. reboot the box and reconnect the flash original firmware

or

b. flash the original firmware straight away without reboot.

cheers

The next thing you need to do is using DreamUp load the official image.

Wait until you get the OK message - it takes longer using the null modem cable only.
