@ WR, no problems mate, just been up to my eyes in work, as I'm off to France for 2 weeks in an hour or so and everyone wants things done prior to Christmas. :)

Is it just me or is there a declining interest in satellite TV as a leisure pursuit as opposed to just using satellite as a tool for viewing your local satellite package? There seem to be less and less threads on the satellite newsgroups and the various forums. Maybe enthusiasts with moveable or oversized dishes tuning into exotic foreign channels with equally exotic CAMs are destined to go the same way as radio hams. If I were a maker of satellite receivers aimed at the independent viewer (the likes of Humax, Echostar etc.), I would be getting worried.

Can anyone who works in the satellite retailing business shed any light on this? I suspect that an increasing proportion of satellite equipment sales concern the packages for a particular operator's channels rather than general- or multi-purpose receivers.

I wouldnt worry about the names on satellite equipment. Almost everything on the UK market comes from a handful of factories in Korea, with even fewer chip and board varieties. When the demand is low, these companies are pushing other items through the production (karaoke machines, car parts etc etc)

Most of the names you see on the front of boxes have no factories, few staff and even fewer overheads
