Even though HD DVD has been laid to rest, Amazon announced Wednesday that anyone who purchased a player from the retailer will be offered a $50 (£25) credit to be used at any time on the company's website.
Citing its "value for customer relationships", Amazon sent an email to shoppers that informed them of the credit. According to the company, anyone who purchased an HD DVD player through its online store before 23 February is eligible for the credit, which can be redeemed at any time between now and 9 April 2009.

Amazon's decision to offer a credit did not come as a surprise to most, as many major retailers like Wal-Mart have initiated similar programmes. Considering the fact that none of these retailers actually needed to do it, it's certainly nice to see them give something back every now and then.
