Hi
First off I am new to this group so I hope my request does not offend.
I have just brought a German Hymer Motorhme into the UK. Its previous German owners had a number of extras added, one of which is a SAMY motorised satellite dish. Whilst there are limited instructions, in german, I cant find anyone who knows if this system is worth keeping or just scrap it al together. THe dealers I have spoken to tell me its either no good or analog or both - none of which helps me decide if they are telling the truth or just trying to sell me £1900 worth of new kit.
Any help or directions to websites or trusted vendors of equipment whould be so very gratefully received.

Thanks

Peter

Can you take some digital snaps and post them Peter? :)

Samy is often used as a shortening of Samsung, of what does the system comprise?

Pictures would be best. A company not far from me used to use a German supplier for dishes and controller for a motorhome. Everything converted to 12V operation.

Problem was the original satellite locating firmware suffered from troubles once the digital transponders became too numerous.

Thanks for this gentlemen. The van is currently with a garage to convert to Uk spec. It willb e back later this week and I will take the photos etc.

The system in it comprises of a controller called SAT-Finder in the van that lifts the dish then rotates it and there is a digital readout that is upto 4 digits long. The previous german owner has written a couple of these digits down. For exemple Bayern 1450 & Norditalien 1520. I can obtian those numbers on the readout but as it is not connected to a decoder or TV at this stage it naturally does nothing. I mention it simply to demonstrate that the SAT Finder seems to be able to reproduce these numbers.
As soon as its back I will post photos.
Thanks again for your interest.
Regards
Peter.

I believe the receiver would be supplying a voltage to drive the LNB, the positioner module in your case being independent of the TV equipment.

Could either of you gentlemen tell me what the 4 digit readout on the SAT Finder represents?
Thanks.

There are two possibilities

Most likely - 1450 and 1520 are positioner counts - determining where the dish stops

Less likely - they are the frequencies in MHz , of the two channels

Looks like it should do the job, but you need to read what it says on the LNB, to see if it will be suitable for digital.

The LNb could be expressed as universal in a number of ways, it may even have universal written on it. It could also have the frequency range 10,750 to 12,950Ghz, or LO 9,750 low 10.600 high.

If in doubt, write down everything on it.

If it is a universal, then any digital receiver should be fine, but depends on what you want to watch

I have jsut clambered up on the roof and determined the following words and numbers

eingang (entry) 10.70Ghz - 11.70 Ghz
Ausgang (exit) 950 - 2050Mhz
Dual Pol LNB
14/18 v200 mA
Lo 90.75Ghz

Across the top of the back of the LNB it says
WISI OB30 BZT KUO2 836

Hope this means something to you guys.

OK, it's an enhanced LNB, Local oscilator of 9.750Ghz, so really only good for analogue. There are two ways of going from here, you can try and make a standard universal LNB fit the unit, doesn't look impossible, or see if you can trace the manufacturer and see if they can supply a suitable universal LNB.

What rough size is the collar holding the LNB? Lokks bigger than 40mm.

THe original manufacturer is probably the problem as it was fitted in Germany. However the LNB fitting is about 40mm so is another replacement possible? It look as if we are moving into the specialist arena. Can you put me onto anyone in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire or Berkshire who could look at it and sort it out for me?

If the colar is 40mm, then a normal LNb can be fitted. I'm not too far away Peter, we can have a play with it.

Perhaps you could let me know how to find you. If I can have a contact number perhaps we could arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. I am not sure what the discussion group protocol is on swapping addresses and tel no's on discussion groups - perhaps you could advise me.

Sounds as if we might actually get this bird to fly yet!!
