I read somewhere that ART is switching from Viacess to Irdeto encryption soon.

Does anyone know anything more about this ?

This is highly unlikely.

Are you sure you read this - please give the source.

ART to use Irdeto M-Crypt

German-based Arab Radio and Television (ART) has signed an agreement with Irdeto Access for the implementation of Irdeto's compact conditional access system Irdeto M-Crypt to secure its ART and PEHLA programs in Europe.

ART will launch a new bouquet called PEHLA, that will contain mainly Indian content. The bouquet includes Sony Entertainment Television, GeoTV, StarPlus and Ten Sport among other services. In addition, Irdeto M-Crypt will secure the Arabesque bouquet In simulcrypt mode enabling owners of a set-top box or Common Interface (CI) CAM containing Irdeto Access' conditional access technology to view the bouquet if they purchase a subscription from ART.

---------------

As far as i am aware, ART Sports channels are part of the Arabesque bouqeut so perhaps this is due to be implemented very soon.

Here is a link which gives a bit more detail:

does anyone know anything more about this, as i remember reading a thread in here a couple of weeks ago about how ART Sports will soon be harder to get or something like that. Someone from First-Sat website made a comment about it here but the thread seems to have disappeared?

The link you posted was dated January 20, 2004.

"In simulcrypt mode" means it uses more than one encryption system. There are no plans to drop Viaccess.

Ok thanks m8.

Just wanted to clear that up as i'm new to this and am contemplating getting ART sport.

Now, any idea what that thread was on about then... did you see it here at all?

Will ART sport be harder to get in the near future?

sorry for asking so many q's.

cheers.

Nothing is guaranteed. Providers can can change their transmissions at a moment's notice if they want.

Guesswork says that January 2004 notice was to do with PEHLA using both Irdeto and viaccess (simulcrypt) on 13°e.

ART only uses viaccess on 13°e.

I doubt they will pull the plug on the PL their deal runs until 2008 and its a big draw for them.

What size dish do you need to get 7w in the North West of England ????

one guy reckons he can get it with a 110 triax on the southcoast,so with a bit of elevation adjustments,it would probably possible to receive it in most parts of the UK.i can pick it up here in amsterdam with a triax 88cm dish.

Just found another thread say a chap near manchester get nilesat (V tp's) on a 1.1m, but loses signal in anything but perfect weather. H tp's are about half the power of the V tp's so will need a much bigger dish

I've got a 110 Triax on the south coast, and it's only just posible on the best transponders and the best conditions. Not something you're likely to watch the match on. I'd say 1.5m minimum to have any kind of stable signal.

My best guess would be yes, there are lots and lots of Arabic people in Holland
who have dishes locked on ART.
Also i do not think that ART would bend to any political pressure from western institutions, they have a contract with the prem.till 2007,when the next issue of TV rights is due.
It will be interesting to see what the new owner of MU,does then.
