Hi

this channel was at 13E on analogue but vanished a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, according to a couple of sources, it is now available on digital at 13E. I cannot pick it up. I've tried rescanning my channels on my digital receiver.

Can anyone else get it at 13E on hotbird? It is supposed to be at
11623 V (Hotbird6) 27500 3/4

Thanks

It was there last night - I remember seeing it near the Romanian channel whilst I was zapping..

Thanks that's interesting as I can't see FRANCE 2 and 3 either. For most encrypted channels (I'm just picking up FTA channels), I usually see the station listed but with scrambled msg. Do you think a software update would help?

(I will eventually get round to getting a dish pointing to 5W).

Just checked 11623v 27500 3/4.

Arte is definitely there and fta - you should get it on your receiver.

Isn't that the Arte info channel. Arte was on 10834 MHz V SR2750 FEC 3/4
but some like myself are currently unable to decrypt as with France 2,3 and 5 Multivision TPS etc.

I normally watch Arte on the 19e fta channel.

Regarding Arte on 13e. What's the difference between the Arte info channel on 11623v and Arte on 10834V - at the moment they are showing the same programmes.

Do they show different programmes later in the day?

I don't beleive there's any difference between 'arte' on Hotbird or Astra; except Hotbird provides two channels, one in French the other in German. It is also FTA on both these satellites.

I think Rabbs right - there may once have been a difference, but I reckon they show the same programming now. Certainly they have been the same all the times I have seen them on 19E and 13E

Thanks for the info.

So I should be able to get ARTE on Hotbird at 13E at 10834V (digital) FTA. Any ideas why when I scanned the network I didn't pick it up on my Echostar digital receiver? Could it be an LNB problem?

I've tried 11623 27500 V. It is some arabic type station not ARTE. But don't understand what you meant by 3/4 in your reply above. Could someone explain what that is and perhaps I'll have more luck.

The end of the story is that I found a menu on the echostar which allowed me to scan the individual transponders on Hotbird and I now have ARTE - along with loads of other stuff. phew

No, actually it's the FEC (Forward Error Correction).

From SATCODX (which saved my typing it... :) ):-

Only applicable for digital transmissions.
The FEC (Forward Error Correction) indicates how many Bytes are used for the actual signal, and how many for correction of errors. A FEC of 1/2 means that 1 Byte out of 2 is used for error correction, while a ratio of 7/8 means 7 Bytes are used for the actual signal, and only one for error correction.
A FEC of 1/2 gives as perfect as possible reception, since every Byte containing actual signal is controlled by another Byte checking it.
When a provider chooses a FEC of 7/8 it means he is not wasting any bandwidth at the cost of delivering a signal. The lower amount of error correction means that more sophisticated equipment at the receiving end (for example a more stable and sensitive LNB, or higher reserves with the dish) are needed compared to the same transmission using a FEC of 1/2.

thanks for the info re the FEC. I sorted out my problem receiving ARTE as FTA. I did not realise that I had to scan all the frequencies in manually on the Echostar 808 2CI. Originally I was just doing a global scan and the ARTE FTA was getting missed out.

Glad to hear that - you will probably find the Arte transponder was missing from the automatic scan list for some reason. Ive just had to factory reset my Echostar an found quite a few transponders missing from assorted satellites..
