I am currently pointing at Astra 19.2, but would also like to view Hotbird as well without losing 19.2. Is this possible with one dish?

Yes, just use an offest arm, second LNB and a DiseqC switch.

Yes, that would be fine, you will probably need to refocus your dish on Hotbird to use that.

They are both easy to setup, the monobloc possibly slightly easier, but if it breaks, then you have to replace the whole thing. If you use a second LNB, offset bracket and four way DiseqC switch, you can also add another couple of LNBs or another dish to the setup at a later date.

Look at our advertisers at the top banner on the forum, there a couple who can supply what you want. :)

Last couple questions Rolf,

I think I will go the monoblock way.

1. You said I would have move the dish, can you explain a little more. Once one of the LNB's has located 19.2 am I right in thinking the other will be facing Hotbird?.

2. Will this gear work with SkyStar 2 & ProgDvb.

3. Will I need a different bracket to hold this Monoblock.

4. The Monoblock has a DiSEqC switch built in, is this all I need.

Thanks alot

2. yes

3. no the 40mm clamp on the lnb arm will be fine

4 yes no other things needed, only setting on the reciever DiSEqC ports hotbird to port a and astra 1 to port b

So once I have installed the monoblock i need to locate hotbird and then the other LNB should be facing 19.2, right?. How can I find hotbird without messing things up , I was hoping just to install the monoblock without moving the dish.

Most of them are setup so that you mount the 13 East side in the clamp and the 19 East sits at the offset position with the horn slightly closer to the dish. It may work the other way, you can always try in the first instance. :)

It is only 6 degrees to the west and a couple of degrees higher on the horizon, so the movement is relatively small.

And here is a picture of how your dish and LNB should look. Dish is focused on Hotbird and offset LNB is for 19*east. Also close up view of the monobloc.

Hi Newgen,
As Rolf said single LNBs are a good investment if something goes wrong compared to a monoblock, but If I was you I would think about Quad or Twin LNBs as I understand you are using your dish for a skystar 2 and If you feel there is any chance you will put a Set Top Box in your living room, or you want another skystar2 in your PC to watch one / record from another you will be glad you bought the 2/4 output LNBs.
Incidently I can receive 13 , 19 , 28.5 deg on an 80cm dish in Dublin so you would get a better reception in the Channel Islands.

hi rolfw
i have just fitted my monoblock lnb the same as newgen2005. but can't get a signal for astra1 19.2 east. you say in your post to set the diseqc settings on the reciever to port a (hotbird) port b (astra) but on my reciever on the diseqc options it has mini a and mini b and then ports 1,2,3 and 4. so set it to mini a =hotbird. mini b =astra. do you know if this is correct..?

OK, so as you look at the dish from behind the LNB, do you have the right hand LNB in the clamp and if you cover it with a thick piece of cloth, does the Hotbird signal disappear?

If it doesn't work on mini DiseqC, then try the first two ports of the four way option. :)
