I'm planing to buy a dish to receive mainly BBC and ITV. I've been watching a lot of foot print for this sat, but not sure what size to take for this sat.

Right now i've got astra/hotbird with 1.4m dish and the picture is not perfect.

So what size for this sat in Belgrad, Serbia.

Thank you.

For all of Astra 2D in Belgrade you are probably looking at 3m maybe 3.5m!

You may get *some* reception on a WELL INSTALLED 1.8m:

That's why I was asking the question.

I've heard so many figures, i didn't know which one was right.

As I don't want to buy a dish too big and more expensive than a smaller one.

Do you have any ideas how much a 1.8m, 2.4m and 3m dish may cost, roughly?

Thank you

I am always watching out for extreme out of footprint reception but up to now i haven't seen a detailed report for each Astra 2D frequency in Beograd. Though some Verticals could be received in Timisoara/RO as you can see here:
_http://www.rdi-board.com/showpost.php?p=371188&postcount=106
There is also the member piratt here from Vidin/BG who gets all the Verticals with his high quality old USSR 1.80m dish. The Horizontals seem to be the major problem in your region. I also guess that you won't have any chance unless trying a 3-4m dish. And even then nobody can guarantee that you will have all the time these frequencies that you might get.

For more detailed analysis if there is anybody in Beograd or surrounding receiving Astra 2D on much bigger dishes than 1.80m please take a look on this local board: _http://www.novisf.com/wbb3/index.php

For the cost of such dishes in Beograd i cannot tell you since i am not aware of the market there. There are quite a lot manufacturers worldwide. Some have stopped producing big dishes others still do. Among the first are for example Channel Master, Kathrein, MWO, Fuba, Siemens, Hirschmann. From time to time you can find them used in ebay or elsewhere. Among the still manufacturing there are professional US imported dishes like Andrew, DH, Patriot, Prodelin, American Antenna. From the UK you can get Precision Antenna, from Finland Aerial Oy, from Russia Supral, from Poland Laminas, from Portugal Famaval, from Spain Tecatel, from Italy Irte, from Turkey Laser. Of course there are some that i am not aware of. The new 1.8m dishes start from about 500€. 3m dishes can cost you up to some thousands of €. The 3m might also have problems tuning in 28.5E if you're aiming at 28.2E because of its very tight reception cone. What you always should be aware of is, no segmented dish but one piece otherwise you risk losing signal if not perfectly installed. If you are interested in making it motorized don't choose the fix mount version. Don't forget that the best dish, especially the bigger, cannot perform at its maximum if no experienced professional alignes the dish with expensive measurement equipment. He of course will also cost you something.

On the other hand what should be the strenth of the signal for astra 19.2E and hotbird 13E with a 140cm dish.

Because right now i've got 42% on Astra 19.2E. Do you think it's normal or i need to move my dish?

Do you have any breakups ? On a 140cm dish in Beograd you should receive full 13E/19.2E. If not, either the dish has been turned by strong winds or you should change one by one the LNB(s), the switch and the cable.

Signal strength by the way is not relevant. Signal quality is the one you have to take care of. Unfortunately the "%" of each receiver are not standardized which means that 90% on one means good reception, on another critical. Only on some you will find accurate meters like S/N, C/N in dB like on Openboxes or BER on Dreamboxes.

The channels are working fine (with a clear blue sky) i'm just concerned about the strenth, i thought with this size the strenth should be stronger...
For the exemple, provider: 11597V 22000, strenth from 41% to 46%.

Even better, what I mean was that on my receiver i've got two ligns:
Signal quality: This is where i've got around 40%
Signal Level: 99%

This frequency is on Astra 1L and is very strong. You should have much better signal quality. Even under rainy conditions you must not have any breakups on any frequency on this dish size.

I'm glad that it's running now. What was it ? A misaligned dish because of strong winds or a bad working LNB ?

It was a misaligned dish due to wind, rain, bad weathers, snow during the winter and some mens working on the wall of the house :-)

I see. This happens to bigger dishes more often than to smaller ones.
