Hey everyone!

I need to pick up a few channels from the Astra 2G Europe beam in Burgas BG but it seems it's just out of reach from the maps on satbeams.com

Has anyone known someone or managed to pick up signal anywhere in the south of Bulgaria? I want to go and buy a dish for it but obviously not sure what I should start with

thanks!

Unless you find somebody local who receives signal from this satellite then it's always going to be a shot in the dark. From the footprint a 1.8m may be needed, if you're lucky then perhaps a 1.2m may be sufficient.

Well I went and got a 1.2m to try. 2G Europe does come in but only DVB-S transponders. S2 seems to be too weak to lock sadly (the channels I needed were the HD news channels)

HOWEVER The rest of the channels come in fine. Everything from 2F Europe and 2E Europe is as strong as 19e.

Just goes to show you how wrong the footprints can be

I am fringe in Sweden with a 1.2 M and micro adjustments do make a difference. as does your box.

Yeah, adjusting the skew managed to get me 1 S2 transponder but nothing else. Tried everything else but it just made the signal worse.

Dish has perfect shape (not warped), and focal point is correct? Did you also check that?
(It is what I would check, when every dB is needed...)

Yeah, brand new dish I just bought. Everything measures up fine.

I think 1.2m just isn't enough for the area

It is normal that you recibe Europe foootprint but you should receive also UK 2E.

Have you tried the SD channels in 2E? 10818V is a strong TP

If you need HD try the Intelsat Satback

I don't get anything from the UK beam however luckily I do not want or need anything from the UK beams. I need CNN International HD and Bloomberg HD which are both only on 2G at the moment.

Are you checking dish pointing while you are tuned to a 2G transponder? I have about a centimeter at the LNB between 2E and 2G peaks.

Yep, it's fine tuned for 2G, used the only S2 TP I could get to optimise it and checked the S, all higher but still not enough

Intriguing. I am supposedly in a lower signal area. Are you using an Inverto Black Ultra lnb? Do you get RT, and Smithsonian?

I've just completed a full blind scan, here all the transponders I can lock:
11082 H
11038 V
11112 H

11141 H (used to check signal as it was the weakest S TP)
11171 H
11225 V
(barely locked)
11264 H (just at locking point, any bad weather would knock it out)
11265 V
11464 H
(breaking up badly)
11479 V (breaking up)
11494 H (breaking up badly)
11509 V I was able to scan but no lock, so no Smithsonian channel
11538 V
11582 H
Same as above, could get channels name but no lock
11627 V
11758 H
11778 H
11836 H
11914 H

11934 V
12012 V
12070 H

12090 V
12110 H

12148 H
12188 H
12207 V
12226 H

12246 V
12266 H

12285 V
12324 V
12344 H

Seems anything on 2E is completely fine but 2G is hit or miss

Just a thought, when you say 'all higher but still not enough', are you going by signal strength or signal quality? Only use signal quality, signal strength can be misleading. Also is your line of sight to the satellite clear? :)

Strange since 2G seems to be stronger at your place than 2E and 2F according to these maps:

Yeah, I suppose the older birds aren't as well made and their footprints aren't great representations of reality.

satbeams maps show that 2F does actually reach here though some weird oddity, but 2G and 2E don't.

The interesting thing is that I have no problem getting any of these birds from my other setup with an 80cm dish in Parnu, Estonia while also being out of the footprint of 2E and 2F
