Why did the full switch from 2A to 2E take over a year? Wouldn't Sky want to use the higher powered 2E as soon as it became operational?
SES would want to balance loading against what they perceive as required redundancy alongside 2A's useful life. Maybe now they've taken the decision that 2A is at the point whereby it's reliability is compromised so reducing it's TP loading down is the best compromise whilst it can be retained as backup either at 28 or 23.5E.

Once 2G is in use I definitely think, as Timo says, that it may be used more for it's UK spot. I also wonder whether some of the 2E 'D' band TP's might be offloaded to 2G to balance up loading across the three birds? Sky may be keen to put some of their TP's on to the PE antenna of 2G too to keep the expats happy if it's got better Eastern Mediterranean coverage, for yet we don't really know.

June/July could prove to be interesting to see what ends up where.

Depends how long it takes them to test it. Lets see what happens to 2G this coming week as we're past the three Month date from 15th December next week onwards.

Now 2A has stopped broadcasting from 28E, when is 2G going to start transmitting from there?

Good question Astra 2G still has to move to 43.5 east to complete Ku band testing currently the satellite is still at 21.21 east http://www.n2yo.com/?s=40364 showing no signs of moving ? as pointed out here the satellite could have moved a couple of weeks ago so it does not look like it will make 28.2 east until May/June this year.

If 2G moves away from 21.2°E, this board's readers surely will know among the first!
Why you want visual confirmation, TLE's can go bad sometimes, but not for long.
And there are also the signals in X and Ka band.

W1 is suggesting it has already moved. I don't go with that because TLEs for geosats is 1 working day behind fact. But spotting would prove with certainty.

I think it is on 2F too. In fact I think 12.109GHz/H to 12.324GHz/V are all 2F. And maybe also 11.720GHz/H switched to 2F? I'm just going by signal levels in Finland and some signal variation graphs of some transponders posted on various forums which mirror 2Fs fluctuations perfectly.
