There was reference to the signal dropping in Northern areas. For me West Ireland (Mayo) Astra 2F is as strong as 1N. However I notice this report from NI.

Not that I've seen anywhere yet.The Astra 2B north and south beam channels continue

Hi Guys. Hope I'm in the right place. I just got wind of this 2F saga. I'll be back in Portugal next May, perfectly timed to lose everything.
Big Q: Will BBC radio end up on the new narrow beam also?
I know there is no good reason why it should as it isn't a part of the licence(?), but it wasn't always on the wide beam.
Thxs

The radio will also be on the narrow beam as the stations also utilise the same transponders as the television channels.

Yup - BBC shut down their last remaining widebeam frequency to save money a few weeks ago.

Because it depends upon exactly what you mean by "getting Sky": All that has happened so far is that some of the Free To Air PSB related Channels have moved from 1N to 2F.

No "Sky" Channels have moved at all.

If you got 2A and 2B before, you'll still get them now.

Thxs guys. Oh well, at least I can listen to 'Clue' & the News Quiz online on my rural 2G EDGE wireless connection. Such technology!

For any expats with wired broadband connections

cough

expatshield (google it)

cough

;)

Worked fine for me to listen to geolocked uk local radio via my laptop when I was in Poland last summer

Doubt you would get enough bandwidth to watch tv channels on line but no harm in trying

Sky Sports transmit off 2A & 2B - and will stay there for a few months yet.

Even them we believe they will move to the Pan European beams on the new birds rather than the uk spots

Quite how THAT will pan out is another question & completely impossible to answer until they start taking over the traffic.
