@woborny: Ouch!

@solly: Shame they are ruining the commentary from that nice Frenchman by talking over him with an English translation.

English is on left, French on right (Or other way around, Can't remember, change from stereo and problem solved.)

Ah another beautiful Ariane 5 launch. Clear skies allowed booster flameout, booster separation & fairing jettison all to be clearly seen :)

Astra 2F is the heaviest SES bird launched by Arianespace - 6 tonnes.

2F cant take over all the frequencies on its own, she has insufficient capacity. ISTR two birds are needed for full replacement capacity

Sylda 5 (the dual payload adapter) separated
Total mass to GTO: 10,200kg. I'm pretty sure that's more than just an Ariane-5 record; probably only classified NRO payloads have been heavier to geostationary transfer

Not enough I think - 2C has 32 (reducing to 28 at eol) transponders.

Cracking launch tonight, been out but recorded and just finished watching it all. We'll await to see it's testing orbit.

They didnt say last night. It will be declared operational when the tech boys decide shes ready to go having passed all the shakedown tests.

Normally its 6-8 weeks after launch, although Eutel Ka sat was nearer 6 months due to the complexity of the payload.

Realistically we are looking at mid-late November
